Description

Reporting to the President, the CFO, Executive Vice President of Finance & Operations will play a critical role in developing and implementing fiscal management and reporting strategies across the organization. As a member of the senior leadership team, the EVP will be an advisor to the President, board of directors, and other relevant internal stakeholders, evaluating and assisting them with their budgeting, financial monitoring, planning, and analysis. The CFO, Executive Vice President, will be responsible for overseeing all fiscal and fiduciary responsibilities of the University. In addition, the CFO, Executive Vice President will have expertise in the areas of fund accounting, financial reporting and analysis, audit oversight and management, policy development, internal control, general accounting, budgeting and forecasting, and financial investment accounting. The CFO, Executive Vice President works closely and collaboratively with University leadership to achieve a strategic, student-centered approach to fiscal management in support of the University’s mission.

  This position does supervise others.

  ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Serves as a member of the President's senior leadership team and advises the President on pertinent issues and topics related to finance, budget, and institutional operations.
  2. Direct and oversee the university's business and support functions, including budget administration and financial planning, accounting and investments, purchasing contracts, and risk management. 
  3. Provide oversight of offices of the Business offices (Controller & Staff Accountant), Enrollment Services division (Financial Aid, Bursar, Registrar), and Campus Operations.
  4. Assesses organizational performance against both the annual budget and the university's long-term strategy; develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the President and make actionable recommendations.
  5. Works closely and collaboratively with the senior leadership team, faculty, staff, and students in meeting the mission and strategic goals of the University.
  6. Engages the President and Finance & Audit committee of the board of directors in short, medium, and long-term financial plans and projections.
  7. Oversees the preparation of the yearly audit with external auditors by collecting the accounting records necessary for the evaluation of the university's financials. 
  8. Leads and implements transformative initiatives, such as accounting system conversions, to improve the efficiency of financial and reporting systems.
  9. Develops and utilizes forward-looing, predictive models, and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight in the university's operations and business plans.
  10. In conjunction with the President and other senior leaders, develop and provide vision of campus-wide financial and capital construction long-term and short-terms of strategic plans.
  11. Serves as Financial Advisor to the President and Cabinet.
  12. Work collaboratively with the Vice President of Institutional Advancement in matters of fund-raising for various programs and projects where donor funds or other public and private funds are being solicited and/or utilized. 
  13. Provide leadership, coaching and active hands-on management for the Finance & Operations Division to increase the capabilities and improve the effectiveness of this group.
  14. Participates in various committees or advisory groups; providing financial information, data & guidance where needed and appropriate. 
  15. Ensure the appropriate levels of collaboration with relevant staff in the President's Office.
  16. Maintains an awareness of and/or participation in relevant external entities and their activities/decisions affecting Martin University's ongoing development and operations.
  17. Leads all areas of responsibility with an emphasis on quality and customer service.
  18. Complete projects and duties as assigned by the President.

Attend Board of Trustees meetings; prepares agenda materials and reports.

Qualifications


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field preferred. CPA designation with the knowledge and experience necessary to manage and lead within a financially complex organization.
  2. Work experience in related and progressively responsible positions. Related work experience includes the areas of accounting and finance, financial auditing, business management, or similar area.
  3. Strong leadership skills and the ability to coordinate and lead multiple offices and direct employees in support of the institutional goals.
  4. Impeccable judgment and integrity.
  5. Ability to manage confidential information.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to higher education.
  7. Proficiency in the use of research, statistical analysis, and information technologies.
  8. Experience with fiscal and administrative affairs, strong management skills, and the ability to relate effectively with multiple constituencies.
  9.  Exceptional interpersonal, team-building, and problem-solving skills.
  10. Exceptional knowledge of budget forecasting, preparation, and administration.
