Position overview:
Recreation Programmer to Co-facilitate our language and culture leadership programs. Village Parks and Global quest provides a language and cultural youth development program for motivated, talented, and culturally diverse students ranging from ages 11 years and 17 years old from Minneapolis. Youth meet biweekly for language and cultural learning, as well as leadershipdevelopment.
Compensation: $17.00 an hour. This part time position is eligible for sick and safe leave in accordance with the Minneapolis Sick and Safe Time Ordinance. This position is not eligible for other benefits.
Hours: 7-10 hours a week including planning and time spent working directly in the program.
Work Responsibility:
- Plan and lead a structured, cultural, leadership program from youth in the city of Minneapolis
- Help create a positive, safe, and nurturing environment for youth in Minneapolis Park and Recreation centers.
- Ensure the environment and recreation-based curriculum provides learning experiences to meet each customer needs.
- Must be available 2-3 evenings for programming between 5pm-8:30p.
- Day hours are available for program planning and attending meetings.
Qualifications:
- Must pass a background check
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and group settings
- Motivate and mentor youth showing flexibility, creativity, and communication skills.
- Work effectively with diverse cultural and socioeconomic demographics.
- Work in a team environment; demonstrate flexibility and patience in adapting to changing situations.
- Maintain composure and professionalism in sometimes chaotic or stressful situations.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and complete physical tasks (lift, carry, pull, etc.)
- Work in both indoor and outdoor environment.
