Job Summary
Responsible for working with Food and Agriculture Director and overseeing MMFEC facility operations, ensuring facility services are effective for the Food and Ag Center program. Responsible for managing product production, ensuring the highest standard of quality, and promoting the sales of MMFEC products.
Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following and are listed in order of priority.
- Oversees the operations of MMFEC including but not limited to:
- Staff supervision that includes hiring and training new employees: plan, assign and direct work; appraise performance; discipline of employees as needed; address complaints and resolve problems in a timely manner
- Works with Food Safety Manager to develop and implement plant safety protocols and procedures, including Mission Mountain Food Safety Management System, OSHA, FDA and USDA and requirements relative to management practices
- Oversee the certification for FSNS third party audit and implement procedures to verify conformance to the high standards of quality as established by FSNS GMP audit
- Assures compliance with the facility Safety and Health Plan (OSHA) by employees and clients, responsible for internal incidence reporting
- Works with MMFEC Client Services Manager to ensure client needs are met.
- Works with Food Safety Manager in the Implementation of MMFEC Food Safety Management System and all food safety plans associated with it. Responsible for the verification of records of the MMFEC Food Safety Management Plan
- Lead member of MMFEC Food Safety Team and participates in team meetings with Executive Director
- Lead member of facility HACCP team- works with Food Safety Manager and team in the development of client HACCP plans
- Oversee administration of MMFEC financial operations
- Supervision of product sales, inventory management of MMFEC operations.
- Review monthly financials with Executive Director; product sales, client usage and storage billing. Resolve any issues with client billing.
- Manage MMFEC product production and sales with an emphasis on expanding market entry of the products in retail and institutional markets.
- Conducts cost analysis on MMFEC product production to determine cost efficiencies for competitive pricing. Establish pricing specifications on all products.
- Attend tradeshows that promote MMFEC products, work with designer on product labels, packaging
- Evaluate and improve product production to build efficiency and cost effectiveness in processing.
- Develop new distribution and retail markets for the MMFEC markets
- Expand institutional sales of MMFEC products in collaboration with Local Food Promotion Manager.
- Facility Team Meetings: Meets with and follows-up with Executive Director to assure contracts and all required paperwork are put in place prior to processing. Meets with other staff weekly to review work orders, production schedules and client needs.
- Professional Development: Continues professional development by attending courses, workshops, and seminars etc. as appropriate to his/her job and as required by the Organization and/or funding agencies. This may require occasional overnight travel.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises Food Safety Coordinator, Lead Processor and all staff engaged in MMFEC productions.
Qualifications
Graduation from a Secondary School with specialized course work in food science and/or 3 years’ experience in food manufacturing and processing. Must have a good understanding of equipment and processing lines, ensure a safe working environment, and meet quality control standards. Knowledge of SQF standard, FDA and state regulations regarding food safety and security related to processing is necessary and the person must be certified in HACCP and Better Process Controls.

● Full time position in our office in downtown Ronan, MT in the beautiful Mission Valley. We are located close to Flathead Lake and the Mission Mountains, and about an hour and half from Glacier National Park, Kalispell, and Missoula.
● Normal office hours are Monday through Friday between 8-5pm,

Office Hours: Normal office hours for the position are Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Occasional evening or weekend work is required and occasional travel, overnight, away from home.
Computer Skills: must be proficient in Food Corridor, Excel, and WORD.
Health: Individual must be healthy and free of communicable diseases that can be transmitted through food. Physical demands: The physical demands listed are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, and stand for extended periods during processing. Employees are required to walk some distances through a manufacturing plant, climb stairs, bend, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and climb or balance. Must be able to drive and be certified on a forklift, set up/take down various equipment and other processing related items and must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Annual Salary for Position: $55,000- $65,000 determined on experience
