Job Description:
Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions.
The Financial Aid Liaison specializing in Pell Grant support is responsible for assisting Pell-eligible students throughout the financial aid process, ensuring they receive the necessary guidance to access and maintain their financial aid. This exempt position focuses on providing personalized support, improving student retention, and enhancing financial literacy among Pell Grant recipients.
The position is full-time with full benefits and funded for four years by a grant; no guarantee of position continuation exists after the four year grant period ends.

Minimum required qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Education in related field or a combination of equivalent education and experience
- Demonstrated experience in fields such as higher education, financial aid, counseling, social services, education, or related areas
- Knowledge of student barriers and current evidence-based solutions
- Experience working with diverse individuals and groups
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing as demonstrated in the application package.
- Demonstrated proficiency using Office 365, Google Suite, and related applications
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks; work in a demanding, fast-paced environment with changing priorities; and adhere to required timelines meeting work priorities and objectives
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
Preference will be given for the following:
- Demonstrated experience in higher education areas such as financial aid, academic/career coaching, or advising
- Experience using tools such as EAB Navigate, PeopleSoft SIS, and Canvas
