What are the responsibilities and job description for the Disease Intervention Specialist position at Muskegon County, MI?
A Disease Intervention Specialist, under the supervision of the Nursing Manager, interviews, educates, and counsels clients and other individuals who seek services for, or may have been exposed to, or infected by, sexually transmitted diseases. This position will conduct field investigations to locate difficult-to-reach individuals; perform follow-up and referral activities to ensure examination and treatment compliance for infected clients and partners; and educate clients about health risks and promote behavioral changes to reduce risks. Under the direction of a Public Health Nurse, this position will also give medication for treatment as authorized by the Medical Director. During a public health emergency, may be required to report for specialized assigned duties or perform emergency response roles, inside or outside Muskegon County.
Required Minimum Entrance Qualifications
1. Possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Social Work, Sociology, Education, , Public Health, or similar human service field AND Have a minimum of one (1) year of work experience in social work, health, human services, public education or related field.
2. Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license.

PHYSICIAL ACTIVITIES
An employee in this class performs generally sedentary work activities requiring occasional lifting of objects weighing thirty-five (35) pounds or less.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
An employee in this class generally works at the Public Health Department, various community sites, or in client homes. Daily travel to various locations within the County may be required. This employee may be exposed to a variety of working environments including urban and rural communities. This position may be exposed to varied weather conditions. This position will work with individuals having infectious or communicable disease.

EVALUATION CONTENT
The selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a County appointed physician before the first day of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test. Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the County system. For each opening, the Department Head has her/his choice of the candidates who meet the required minimum entrance qualifications. This list remains in effect for three months unless exhausted or extended.
