NEXTECH HAWAIʻI EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Position: Executive Director
Reports to: Board Chair or Executive Committee, as a representative of the Board of Directors
Location: Hawaiʻi Island based, remote and on-site as needed
Position type: Part-time, expected 20hrs/week, exempt status, will require additional time commitments during peak program season
Salary: $50,000/year starting
Benefits: additional partial health care package, negotiable
Start date: as soon as April 1, 2023
Duration: 1 year; up to 3 years per annual review

The Success Factory – NexTech Hawaiʻi’s mission is to inspire and build STEM career readiness in Hawaiʻi’s youth. We aim to provide quality educational opportunities that will help to grow the next generation of innovators and problem solvers in Hawaiʻi.
Our programs exemplify STEM skills and career learning through a framework of relationships, relevance, and rigor. We offer tuition-free, project and place-based STEM programs for elementary, middle, and high school-aged youth. We offer year-round programs that are open to all Hawaiʻi Island families. The active return of students, family volunteers, and local STEM career professionals to our programs is a sound measure of our success.
Summary of the Position
The Executive Director provides oversight and overall management, planning, vision, and leadership for all aspects of The Success Factory, including programs, finance, resource development, human resources, communications, and board engagement. The Executive Director works with the Board and Board Committees to establish the vision, policies, strategic focus, priorities, and general scope of programs The Success Factory will deliver. The Executive Director will be responsible for organizing and facilitating regular communications and planning with program leaders.

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
- Excellence in organizational management with the ability to manage and develop
- high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
- Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
- Strong preference for candidates with existing Hawaii Island community connections and relationships
- Unwavering commitment to quality programs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
- Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning
- Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed, humble nature and know when to ask for help and advice from others
- A great sense of humor!
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends
Essential Responsibilities
While specific duties will be assigned based on strengths and skill set, the primary areas of responsibility for the Executive Director will include the following:
Leadership & Management (50%)
- Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals
- Collaborate with the board of Directors to identify, create, and implement strategic plan to actualize organization’s objectives
- Create and monitor an annual organizational budget (in collaboration with Board)
- Assist board leadership in developing, maintaining, and supporting a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for operations
- Develop partnerships with educational institutions, organizational stakeholders, industry leaders and other relevant parties
- Develop the organizational culture and promote transparency and collaboration throughout the organization
Fundraising & Communications (40%)
- Expand and diversify revenue streams and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and regional expansion
- Individual Giving
- Build and implement a major gifts program
- Oversee donor communications and grow the monthly sustainer program
- Guide and support the Board and the Fundraising Committee in development efforts
- Fund Development Management
- Oversee grant management
- Develop and maintain sponsorship programs with local businesses and corporations
- Oversee special fundraising events
- Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities
General Operating (10%)
- Collaborate with staff and volunteers
- Direct, plan, and coordinate the work of staff and volunteers, including supervision and evaluation, training, and team building
- Participate in staff/volunteer meetings, attend community events, and otherwise contribute to strengthening the deep roots within our community, both internally and externally
- Other responsibilities co-created with the Board of Directors and/or staff
Our Hiring Process & Timeline
- We will review resumes on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
- We will begin scheduling phone interviews beginning March 2023.
- Finalists will be invited to a second-round one-hour interview, and we will make an offer shortly thereafter
- We would like to have the selected candidate start on April 1, 2023
