What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Center Representative Lead (2023-2024 SY) position at Norwalk Public Schools?
- Responsible for training new Family Center Representatives and updating current guidelines and processes for centralized registration
- Responsible for reviewing and submitting Multilingual Learner intake forms and assessment records to schools
- Ensures that Multilingual Learner information is entered accurately into PowerSchool and ELLevation
- Monitors and maintains registration and MLL records and keeps track of MLL and Family Center data
- Schedules all MLL testing and assignments
- Collaborates with families, family Center Representatives, educators, and community members to develop and implement family engagement programs and initiatives
- Leads the implementation of Family workshops with Family Center Representative, assists training and events to educate families on topics such as child development, literacy, and school involvement
- Coordinates and facilitates community events and parent workshops to engage families in learning opportunities and info sessions to empower families.
- Manage, schedule, and coordinate Family Center activities and provide full calendar management
- Building relationships with families and serving as a liaison between families, district, schools or community organizations
- Assisting families in navigating and accessing district, school and community resources and services
- Advocating for the needs and interest of families with NPS or community
- Provide resources and information to families about educational opportunities, community services and parenting strategies
- Collaborate with the Education Administrator for Multilingual Learners to provide a welcoming, friendly, professional environment for families and the community, and to engage them in a smooth transition into the school community
- Welcome families new to the Norwalk Public Schools promoting and valuing diversity across family structures, cultures, languages, perspectives and values. Make home visits with school teams to foster a sense of trust and belonging.
- Assist in communicating a clear vision for family engagement that is aligned with district goals and core beliefs
- Act as a point of contact for families who experience challenges navigating system protocols and procedures
- Maintain a working knowledge of community resources and build liaisons with other community agencies that are family focused
- Work collaboratively with administrators, school principals, parent coordinators, and bilingual aides to provide learning opportunities
- Participates in all NPS & community events, such as festivals, community “nights out,” neighborhood celebrations, and more
- Collaborate with the Norwalk Community Health Center Director to schedule Health Assessment appointments for students
- Bachelor's degree or at least 3 years experience with data entry
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Interest and ability to work effectively with school-aged youth, educators, families, and communities from a wide range of cultural, social, and economic backgrounds
- Bilingual (especially Spanish or Haitian Creole) preferred
- Demonstrate proficient computer skills using MS Office products, especially Excel, PowerPoint, Google Apps, and Canva

PURPOSE:
The Family Resources Center Representative Lead provides day-to-day support for all students and families of the Norwalk Public Schools community, contributing to the engagement of students, families, and the community in formal and informal settings. This plays a crucial role in fostering positive relationships between families, schools, and communities, and in supporting families in their efforts to promote their child's success and well-being. The Family Resource Center Representative Lead is primarily responsible for leading and training family center representatives with assisting families with enrollment into the district and continues to engage families through parent workshops, community outreach, and more.
