Grant Accountant

Position: Grant Accountant
Location: Spokane, WA
Compensation: $90,000 - 100,000
Schedule: Full-time, Hybrid (1 day onsite)

Job Summary:
NOW CFO is partnering with a nonprofit focused on improving the lives of low-income, marginalized communities. Creating a culture that promotes a growth mindset for diversity, equity, and inclusion. As a Grant Accountant, you will support the Finance Department with accounting and administrative tasks, ensuring coordination across departments on financial requirements, deadlines, and schedules.

Responsibilities:

Finance Department Support:

• Support Finance Department operations and ensure financial deliverables are met.
• Collaborate with the Controller to develop annual work plans, monthly deliverables, and budget requirements.
• Coordinate with teams to align on financial requirements, deadlines, and schedules.
• Act as Proxy for the Controller as needed.

Accounting & Financial Reporting:

• Stay updated on best practices in accounting, technology, and grants management.
• Assist with reports for annual audit and respond to auditor inquiries.
• Reconcile accounts and support month-end closing tasks.
• Assist with year-end closing, audits, and proper expense classification.
• Organize financial documentation for accounts receivable invoicing.

Internal Controls & Process Improvement:

• Maintain internal controls and assist with updates.
• Identify and recommend improvements for processes, financial risks, and compliance issues.

Payroll & Budget Support:

• Prepare semi-monthly payroll and collaborate on benefit updates.
• Assist with budget-related questions and communications.

Accounts Payable & Grant Compliance:

• Supervise and support accounts payable.
• Assist with financial grant compliance and contract management.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting with 3 years of progressive accounting experience, or 5 years of demonstrated growth in responsibilities.
• Ability to recognize disparities or inequalities in areas such as access to resources, opportunities, or outcomes
• A growth mindset, with a desire to teach and learn.
• Preferred: Non-profit Fund & Budget Experience
• Preferred: Sage Intact Experience
