What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Pastry Chef position at Ocean House Bakery?
Seeking a talented and creative Pastry Chef who specializes in baking pastries, desserts, bread, cakes, cookies, and other sweets. You’ll work closely with the owner to maintain an innovative gluten-free pastry menu that delights and excites our guests. You’ll also be responsible for managing all aspects of bakery operations, including staff supervision, inventory control, product quality, and production.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily production of baked goods, ensuring they meet the bakery’s quality standards and customer expectations.
- Collaborate with the Owner to develop and refine new recipes, seasonal offerings, and dessert specials.
- Ensure all pastry items are consistent in quality, taste, texture, and presentation. Maintain high standards for sanitation and food safety.
- Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and supplies, place orders as needed, and ensure proper storage of all perishable goods.
- Coordinate with the baking team to ensure an efficient workflow and timely production of products.
- Supervise, train, and motivate bakery staff, ensuring they meet performance expectations.
- Promote a welcoming atmosphere in the bakery.
- Ensure that all bakery operations comply with local health and safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, adhering to food safety standards.
- Oversee staff adherence to hygiene practices and food handling procedures.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Pastry Chef or Baker
- Strong knowledge of pastry techniques, including mixing, baking, and decoration
- Creativity and an eye for detail in both flavor and presentation
- Experience with inventory management and ordering supplies
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively
- A passion for baking and a commitment to ongoing learning and culinary excellence
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Formal culinary education or equivalent experience preferred
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $26.00 - $29.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25 – 40 per week
