What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at Pain Management Institute?
We are seeking a motivated individual who works well with others in a team-first environment. Strong preference to proficiency in a foreign language (i.e. Spanish, Filipino, Korean, and Mandarin). Experience in medical field is preferred but not required.
Primary location of work will be Bethesda with some coverage of our Washington DC office at 2112 F St. NW.
Some of the duties may include:
1. Provides support for the providers in obtaining pre-authorization for procedures, medication approval, and relaying patient messages to providers.
2. Reviews and responds to patient messages and serves as communication liaison for providers and patients.
3. Provide front office support as needed for efficient patient flow.
4. Assembles supplies and equipment for scheduled procedures according to physicians’ preference cards
5. Follows principles of aseptic technique and prescribed procedure room procedures
6. Assists Physician with all procedures, including patient positioning and required set-up.
7. Aids in explaining the procedure to patients and assists in psychologically preparing patients for procedures, communicating effectively with patients and families as well as physicians and peers.
8. Handles any specimens obtained from patient, properly labeling, packaging, and preparing for shipment.
9. Ensures that all instruments and supplies are available as needed during procedures.

11. Washes and decontaminates all probes and accessories and verifies that all essential equipment is functioning properly each day.
12. Dons proper protective attire (gloves, gown, masks, radiation aprons) during procedures or while processing probes, accessories, and instruments
13. Assists in all rescue and/or resuscitative efforts as deemed necessary by attending physician.
14. Maintains processors, RFA generators, equipment, and autoclaves, performing daily checks and cultures and documenting in the appropriate records; monitors cleaning solution daily for potency, and records results appropriately.
15. Cleans and restocks procedure rooms and processing areas, ensuring that all equipment is stored properly.
16. Maintains inventory of supplies, assisting in the receipt of incoming supplies.
17. Recognizes and utilizes safety precautions and procedures.
18. Assists with the transport and discharge of patients.
19. Performs other duties as requested or assigned.
20. Participates in the QAPI and Safety Program
21. Engages in various clerical and recordkeeping duties as needed.
22. Demonstrated knowledge of potential exposure to hazardous materials (i.e. patient body fluids, disinfectant chemicals) and location of SDS sheets.
23. Provides proper analysis of insurance coverage for upcoming services including, but may not be limited to, active coverage, covered services, patient/primary guarantor liability, and pre-authorization or pre-notification. Maintain records of verification completed.
24. Provides support for the physicians by communicating with insurance providers, pharmacies, and third-party vendors on care related matters for continuing patient treatments.
25. Operates specialized imaging equipment such as c-arms and performs X-ray or ultrasound guided cases.

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
