Deputy Sheriff Sergeant

This posting is for employees in the Sheriff's Office only.  This posting is not open to the public.ABOUT THIS POSITIONThis is court security and enforcement work at the first supervisory level. The employee supervises and participates with a staff of lower level deputy sheriffs in transporting prisoners, maintaining courtroom security, serving legal documents and executing a variety of civil and criminal court orders. The supervision of a staff of deputy sheriffs and the ability to deal firmly and tactfully with hostile members of the public is a significant aspect of the work. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher level deputy sheriff.Assignments require evaluative thinking and are carried out in accordance with standard departmental practices and general work instructions. The employee participates with others in providing court security and enforcement services. Working conditions which can only be partially controlled and physical effort are frequently encountered in escorting prisoners, stopping disorders and making arrests.
