Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Sr. Estimator to join our team. This role plays a crucial part in the construction project life cycle, ensuring accurate estimating, pre-construction planning, and seamless project execution. The position will work closely with the Pre-Construction Manager and team to estimate projects, implement best practices to enhance market competitiveness. This individual will be responsible for preparing budgets, schedules, documentation, and permits, ensuring smooth project turnover to the Project Management team.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of pre-construction processes, strong analytical skills, and the ability to lead estimating efforts to secure new business and optimize project success. This role also requires a proactive approach in identifying value-engineering opportunities and ensuring that all projects align with company standards and client expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, lead, and coordinate pre-bid activities, ensuring accurate project scope definition.
- Analyze plans, drawings, and site conditions to determine required labor, equipment, materials, takeoffs and identify required RFIs, and scope.
- Develop detailed and competitive cost estimates, conceptual budgets, and construction timelines.
- Identify required trades, prequalify subcontractors, and create bid packages.
- Distribute bid packages and follow up with potential bidders to ensure competitive participation.
- Utilize bid tabs to evaluate subcontractor bids, ensuring accuracy and cost-effectiveness.
- Identify and document required RFIs and facilitate value-engineering discussions.
- Secure required permits and coordinate jurisdictional compliance for project readiness.
- Prepare and present professional client proposals, clearly communicating project scope and cost details.
- Oversee internal budget management, project buyout, and transition of awarded projects to the Project Management team.
- Develop and implement business strategies to enhance company competitiveness and expand market presence.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and training to junior estimating staff.
- Support and foster relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry professionals.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in construction estimating, pre-construction planning, and cost analysis, with a focus on commercial projects.
- In-depth knowledge of construction methods, contracting, budgeting, scheduling, and value engineering.
- Proficiency in estimating software, Microsoft Excel, and data analysis tools.
- Strong ability to read, interpret, and validate construction drawings and documents.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
- Experience working with jurisdictional permitting processes and compliance requirements.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Self-motivated, results-driven, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to pass a drug test and background check.
Experience
· 3 - 7 years in Pre-construction and/or Project Estimating or related construction discipline
· Strong background estimating, contracts, scheduling, task management and financial analysis.
· Strong background leading, setting, and managing priorities, activities, and people.
· Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.), Bluebeam, Building Connected,
Education
· Bachelor’s and / or graduate degree required
