Overview

The national offices of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), based in Louisville Kentucky, serve with mid-councils, congregations, worshipping communities, and partner organizations to carry forth the mission of Jesus Christ. Approximately 400 individuals, diverse in race, age, gender, sexual orientation, faith, skills, and more, come together as colleagues to work for a world where justice reigns, peace prevails, and God’s love extends to all people. This community comprises the staff of several national entities: the Office of the General Assembly, Presbyterian Investment and Loan Corporation, the Presbyterian Mission Agency, the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation, Presbyterian Women, and the Administrative Services Group.

Basic Commitment: This position calls for a commitment to the mission of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) as noted in its theological confessions, the Book of Order, and the actions of the General Assembly.

Position Purpose: Serve as Program Manager for the unification of the Office of the General Assembly and the Presbyterian Mission Agency. The position is a two-year term contract role, working full-time Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week. The position is based in Louisville, Kentucky.  

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a comprehensive program plan that includes planning, designing, developing, and implementing the unification of OGA and PMA.
  2. Work with the Unification Commission and staff to clearly identify roles and responsibilities related to the program plan.
  3. Design and implement the project management processes required to support the execution and monitoring of the program plan, including metrics identification and report design.
  4. Lead the Unification Management Office and provide direction and oversight to direct reports.
  5. Design and develop the procedures, tools, and templates needed for staff to document the operating model (baseline and to-be).
  6. Coordinate work efforts that require input and work from multiple groups (e.g., HR, a ministry office).
  7. Represent the unification program in internal meetings with staff, as needed.
  8. Support Executive Leadership in the development of a performance management system for the unified organization.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, Masters level or above helpful.
  • PMP or other relevant certifications.
  • 5 years' previous experience in program management, project management, administration, or related field.
  • Experience working in a faith-based or non-profit organization.
  • Team Leadership/Management experience.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously 
  • Knowledgeable in:
    1. program management methodology and techniques
    2. stakeholder management
    3. performance evaluation and 
    4. change management principles
  • Business Process Re-engineering--Experience developing, implementing, administering and maintaining processes and procedures.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite; competence with program/project management software. 
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • Risk Management

Helpful Skills:

  • Knowledge of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the work of the Office of the General Assembly and the Presbyterian Mission Agency.
  • Ability to speak one or more languages other than English very helpful. 
  • Knowledge of organizational design and development and/or organizational mergers.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sensory and physical requirements include the ability to communicate verbally in person and through technology.  
  • Able to read and understand written materials.   
  • Ability to communicate in a manner suitable to a church office environment. 
  • This is largely a sedentary position that may require occasional filing and lifting up to 15 pounds.   Requires the ability to see, hear, speak, type, write, walk, stand, bend and lift.  This is a full-time position.
