We are one of the largest third party collections companies in the behavioral health industry. As we grow, we are seeking a skilled Patient Collections Specialist to join our team in West Palm Beach. This role is crucial in ensuring the financial stability of our operations while helping patients manage and resolve their outstanding balances with care and professionalism.
Position Summary:
The Patient Collections Specialist is responsible for managing and collecting outstanding patient account balances related to behavioral health treatment. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in the behavioral health field and/or a background in patient collections.
Responsibilities:
- Contact patients via phone, email, and mail to follow up on outstanding balances.
- Provide clear, empathetic explanations of balances due, payment options, and insurance claims.
- Collaborate with the billing department to resolve discrepancies or billing issues.
- Set up and monitor patient payment plans.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of collection activities in the system.
- Escalate unresolved or delinquent accounts in accordance with company policy.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and all relevant state and federal regulations.
- Assist with monthly reporting and analysis of collections performance.
Qualifications:
- Required:
- 1 year of experience working in the behavioral health field (clinical, administrative, or billing side).
- Understanding of the behavioral health treatment process and patient population.
- Preferred:
- 1 year of experience in patient collections, medical billing, or healthcare revenue cycle.
- Familiarity with insurance verification and claim resolution.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- High level of empathy, patience, and professionalism.
- Proficiency with billing software and electronic health records (EHRs) is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related field is a plus.
