What are the responsibilities and job description for the TRANSPORTATION WORKER-FUELER position at Rowan-Salisbury Schools?
NATURE OF WORK
An employee in this class performs semi-skilled duties in the maintenance, service and repair of school buses and other automotive equipment. The employee is expected to understand and apply basic procedures with decision making restricted to the choice of a few established options. Unusual situations are referred to a readily available higher level mechanic. The work in progress is checked occasionally while completed work is reviewed through testing or observation. Occasionally, assignments may be received from and evaluated by the lead mechanic.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE OF WORK
Fuel all buses. Locate and diagnose minor and frequently occurring mechanical problems. On fuelruns, checks oil, tires, coolant levels, and appearance of engine for leaks. Responsible for maintenance of fuel trucks. Maintain parts and tools inventory on fuel trucks. Participate in wrecker calls and delivery of buses. Always maintains appropriate paper work.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must hold minimum of Class B (CDL) w/tanker endorsement. Working knowledge of the operating principles of internal combustion engines. Working knowledge of the methods of adjusting and repairing the electrical wiring and generating systems of bus garage equipment. Ability to acquire skill in the performance of increasingly complex duties relating to the repair and maintenance of bus garage equipment. Ability to learn the uses and operation of various machines commonly found in a Transportation Department. Ability to determine the causes of and the methods to be used in the repair of improperly operating bus garage equipment. Physical strength and ability sufficient to move relatively heavy objects and to perform manual labor for considerable periods of time. Ability to climb on and around medium size vehicles. Summer Duties: Wash Buses Test driver buses after work is completed by mechanic to ensure proper repairs were made. Work with mechanics to complete routine services as needed. Assist mechanics in bus repairs of buses as needed. Install/remove cameras Mount/unmount tires. Assist with bus deliveries Other duties as assigned by supervisor or transportation director.
