What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Manager position at S-E-A?

S-E-A, a national forensic engineering firm with over 50 years of experience in the industry, is seeking a Safety Manager in our corporate office, due to growth. Candidates with prior experience developing and implementing safety program(s) will be considered.

  • This is not a fully remote position. Hybrid is feasible after training but this will not be a fully remote position at any point in time.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing and administering safety programs for the Company
  • Works collectively with management to plan, develop, and implement all aspects of the Company's safety programs, initiatives and activities for all Company locations
  • Develops and refines recommended procedures and methods based on reports of incidents, accidents, and other data gathered from industry and agencies to improve safety and loss prevention
  • Develops company-specific safety training
  • Strategically plans, organizes, and delivers safety-related training for the Company
  • Proactively identifies unsafe conditions and unsafe acts/behaviors, develops appropriate organizational responses to them, and drives actions that will eliminate and prevent those acts or conditions and thereby reduces the risk of incident and/or injury
  • Conducts incident investigations to identify root causes and implement appropriate corrective actions
  • Follows up in conjunction with Human Resources on incident investigations to assure objectives have been met and corrective actions implemented
  • Drives implementation of corrective actions to other work areas or facilities where similar hazards/behaviors may exist
  • Conducts building and grounds surveys on periodic and regular basis to detect code violations, hazards, and incorrect work practices and procedures
  • Conducts job hazard analyses to identify hazards and recommend appropriate PPE or work procedures
  • May serve as a company representative/liaison to outside organizations and regulatory authorities such as OSHA, fire departments, emergency response personnel, various environmental agencies, security and law enforcement, and other teams to assure information exchange
  • Assures all documentation, such as training records, have been completed correctly and stored appropriately within company databases
  • Establishes and tracks goals and metrics pertaining to the effectiveness of the safety program
  • Regularly monitors federal and state laws to assess new developments in the health and safety field, implementing all the required changes
  • Oversees safety and occupational surveillance program requirements, and will be the program manager to a multitude of other safety- related programs
  • Administers and tracks employee compliance with required safety-related training
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts safety-related meetings and training
  • Ability to accept and integrate constructive feedback into job performance
  • Regular and predictable presence at work

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a safety, occupational health, and industrial hygiene, environmental, engineering or related relevant field strongly preferred
  • Minimum of five years of experience in a safety role, preferably at least two years in a safety leadership role. Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred
  • OSHA Safety training certifications (general industry) highly desired
  • ISO experience and/or certification(s), a plus
  • Experience with behavior-based safety programs and policies including, but not limited to, Powered Industrial Trucks, Lockout/Tagout, Hazard Communication, Aerial Work Platforms, Blood Borne Pathogens, First Aid and Personal Protective Equipment preferred
  • Public speaking experience a plus
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel 10% of the time, mostly by plane
  • Ability to maneuver in and around an incident site
  • Ability to lift 50
  • Ability to carry equipment to and from job sites
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
  • Ability to drive in all conditions
  • Ability to fly on airplanes
  • Ability to effectively communicate with clients and colleagues
  • Ability to visually inspect job sites and relevant artifacts
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site
  • Ability to learn a new industry and obtain required certifications
