Under the general supervision of the Lead Dispatcher perform a variety of technical, administrative, and supervisory work related to operation of the E911 Communications Center requiring moderate responsibility and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Act as Emergency Communications Training Officer (CTO), imparting knowledge to new employees by use of an organized training schedule and curriculum.
Maintain an expert level of knowledge of the Standard Operating Guidelines and ensure that all shift personnel are conforming to these guidelines.
Provide supervision in the absence of the lead dispatcher for subordinate personnel, to include the assignment and/or review of work.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the general public.
Complete the daily duty roster in the absence of, or at the request of, the Lead Dispatcher.
Fill vacant positions due to illness, vacation, compensatory, and training time absence of, or at the request of, the Lead Dispatcher.
Work in the capacity of a line dispatcher by answering calls, dispatching law enforcement, fire, and Emergency medical services (EMS) personnel utilizing emergency medical dispatching (EMD), and provide pre-arrival instructions.
Verify at shift change that all staff members are logged into all computer systems correctly.
Provide first point of escalation for dispatchers with difficult callers.
Ensure the highest quality of professional service to the public.
Control evacuation procedures and special routing condition if required.
Verify the work of National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/ Nebraska Crime Information System (NCIS) entries by other dispatchers and authorize completed paperwork.
Complete daily payroll, time, and attendance workbooks.
Report to work with regular, predictable, and consistent attendance.
Peripheral Duties
Serve as a member of various employee committees as assigned.
Perform other duties as directed and assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required. Post-Secondary education in a related field preferred.
Eighteen (18) Months of continuous service as a dispatcher required.
Multi lingual ability preferred.
Employee must be able to obtain and maintain certification in CPR, emergency medical dispatching (EMD) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/ Nebraska Crime Information System (NCIS) operation. Must satisfactorily complete 1080 hour Sarpy County Communications Training and Evaluation Program.
Special Requirements
Willingness and ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, holidays and weekends, work irregular duty assignments, wear a uniform, and attend education sessions as required.
Must receive CTO certification within 12 months of being in position.
