Sumitomo Cryogenics is looking for a Production Manager for our Elk Grove Village, Illinois, facility. This facility repairs cryogenic equipment. This person will be responsible for the output of two repair shops and a warehouse (15 people). Ideally, we would like to find someone who has a technical background who can manage people, and assist the shops by troubleshooting equipment. This role would require reading schematics and using basic test equipment. Our products are very similar to HVAC equipment. So, having a background in HVAC would be very desirable and beneficial. Our facility is best described as a climate-controlled lab. The work hours are normally 6 am – 3 pm. Some overtime will be required. We are a Japanese-owned business, and occasionally, trips to Japan would be required. This role requires a person with a wide range of experience. You must be adept with computers (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and you need to be able to fix equipment, manage people, and entertain visitors. Our turnover rate is approximately 1 person per year, the average employee has been here for at least 10 years. We pay competitive rates and try to maintain a pleasant working environment. Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with team members repairing Sumitomo Coldheads.
- Work with team members repairing Sumitomo Compressors.
- Responsible for the checking and adjustment of attendance, scheduling, coordinating, and facilitating workflow among workers.
- Responsible for making sure the shop and its personnel implement and follow the Quality Management System.
- Correspond with SHI (Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd.) and other affiliated companies.
- Maintain workload efficiency.
- Work with team members maintaining shipping schedule, parts ordering, inventory control, and technical support for the customer.
- Responsible for equipment maintenance.
- Continue to improve productivity by reviewing the overall work process as necessary or when deemed appropriate.
- Work with customers on a regular basis (telephone, visits, etc.). Traveling by air may be required.
- Maintain cost reduction (includes labor costs, number of employee hours needed, and material costs).
- Directly responsible and accountable for ‘Cost of Quality.’
- Responsible for on-site maintenance, troubleshooting, failure-cause analysis, and data analysis.
- Implement DIONS – Dispose, Identify, Organize, Neatness, Self Discipline.
- Submission of written “Weekly Report” and also report to the Vice President on a daily basis.
- Conduct Employee Performance Evaluations, working with the Vice President and the Human Resources Manager, throughout the process.
- Preside over the daily morning meeting and weekly shop meetings.
- Attend meetings associated with management-level topics and discussions.
- Attend Management Review meetings.
- Work with Quality Control Manager for process improvement or customer-related projects as necessary.
- Responsible for providing quality products, including Test Packets.
- Provide ‘back-up’ whenever needed, meaning you might be fixing items yourself.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Vice President or his designee.
- Perform additional ‘multi-tasks’ as defined by the Vice President. These tasks include, but are not limited to, the physical clean-up within respective work areas, which supports 100% accountability of our commitment to DIONS.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must possess experience and knowledge of mechanical and electrical system applications.
- Must demonstrate capability in the application of customer service correspondence, effective management style, and leadership skills.
- Must be able to effectively work with customers at all levels.
- Must possess excellent organizational and follow-up capabilities.
- Must possess excellent problem-solving skills and be able to diffuse customer-related problems quickly in order to maintain or exceed the quality of excellence.
Skills
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Must have a comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft software packages.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience
- Possess a minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience for at least five (5) subordinates.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess project coordination and strategic initiative capabilities.
- Possess a working knowledge of Performance and Quality Management practices.
- Experience with HVAC/R is preferred.
Education/Training/Certification/License
- An Associate’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License at the time of appointment and to be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
- Training in HVAC/R is preferred.
Physical Requirements
Must maintain the following physical requirements:
- Possess the means to see clearly enough to pass the vision portion of a Driver’s License Test.
- Possess the means to see clearly enough to make visual inspections on a regular basis.
- Possess physical mobility to move rapidly from one area to another area.
- Able to lift objects of at least 55 pounds and maneuver objects as necessary.
- Able to bend over while lifting heavy objects (minimum 55 pounds)
