What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adult Program Activities Coordinator position at Signal Centers?

This person will focus on promoting social, physical, and cognitive well-being by offering activities that enhance quality of life, support independence and encourage social interaction.
Job Responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to:
Activity Planning and Execution
• Design and organize various daily activities, including physical exercise, social interaction, learning opportunities, mental stimulation, and personal care if needed. These social, educational, and life-enrichment activities may include, but are not limited to, the following: arts, crafts, music, pet therapy, outings, memory-enhancing activities, history, games, puzzles, physical activity, and reminiscence sessions.
• Adapt activities to meet each participant's abilities and interests. This includes working with staff on client-specific care plans and involving participants in planning activities connected to the program.
• Develop a monthly calendar of events, ensuring diverse and inclusive options.
Participant Engagement
• Encourage participation and adjust activities to increase engagement.
• Build positive relationships with participants to understand their preferences and motivations.
• Actively supervise participants to ensure a safe and supportive environment.
Support and Inclusion
• Work closely with other staff members to ensure activities align with individual care plans.
• Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment that respects and accommodates diverse needs.
• Support participants in using assistive devices or equipment as necessary.
Record Keeping and Reporting
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, individual case notes, and communicating day to day changes and observations to caregivers.
• Report any concerns or observations about participants’ behavior or health to the Program Director.
• Provide input on program improvements based on feedback and observations.
Qualifications Include:
• Bachelor’s degree in human services; additional education in social services, recreational, occupational, or related fields. Aging certification is a plus.
• Experience working with adults or individuals with disabilities in caregiving, activity planning, or support roles.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Proven experience in activity coordination or a related field.
• Strong communication skills, empathy, and patience.
• Ability to adapt activities to various physical and cognitive abilities.
