Responsibilities of the School Budget Bureau:
Review, analyze, and approve all school district and charter school operating budgets.
Calculate and monitor the distribution and use of over $4.1 billion in State Equalization Guarantee (SEG) funding.
Collect and analyze projected and actual student membership.
Collect and analyze information related to Teacher Cost Index and licensed employees certified through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
On a quarterly basis, review school district and charter school actual revenues, expenditures, and cash reports.
Review Emergency Supplemental Awards and Out-of-State Tuition Awards.
School district or charter school Board of Finance suspensions.
Provides technical support and training for school district and charter school business personnel.
Helps develop the public school support appropriation recommendation in relation to SEG.
The School Budget and Finance Analysis Bureau has become two separate bureaus, information may have moved to the Finance Analysis Bureau pages.
Why does the job exist?
Review, analyze and recommend approval of districts' and charter schools' Operating Budgets and related funding documents.
Approve BAR's and oversee actual quarterly financial reports. Supervise up to five employees who do the same. The job includes
multiple other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, assisting the Director, answering questions from external and
internal stakeholders and training duties.
How does it get done?
Position requires extensive contact with school district and charter school licensed school business officials and intermittent contact with Superintendents and School Board presidents. Requires organization and tracking of multiple work duties at one time. Requires adherence to deadlines and motivating and overseeing multiple staff members to ensure timely completion of work. Key responsibilities of the job also include training of staff, presentation creation, OBMS and SharePoint management, and ensuring Operating budgets are completed timely and correctly.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration and six (6) years of directly related experience in budgeting, accounting, and/or auditing. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.
