Why does the job exist?
The purpose of this position is to perform technical consultative services to private businesses and public-sector agencies to improve workplace health, safety and compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and applicable state statutes by performing technical consultative services to private businesses and public-sector agencies throughout the state.
How does it get done?
Bachelor's degree in Physical, Natural, or Environmental Science, Soil Science, or Engineering and two (2) years of work experience in public/environmental health, environmental science, Air Quality Management, Biology, Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Hazardous Waste Management, Wildlife Management, and/or Water Resources. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage under sometimes stressful situations. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. In state and out of state travel may be required to conduct on-site consultative activities, which may include extended periods of standing and walking. This position includes some out of state travel to attend training and possible on-site activities. There is also possible exposure to hazardous chemicals, noise, extreme weather conditions and safety hazards.
