1.Direct and enhance disease surveillance systems to monitor public health trends.
2.Develop and implement statewide epidemiological policies to address public health challenges.
3.Serve as the primary advisor on epidemiological matters to state leadership, including the Cabinet Secretary of the Department of Health.
4.Provide strategic direction for disease surveillance, outbreak response, and public health research.
5.Provide epidemiological expertise in the development of public health policies and programs.
6.Analyze health data and trends to identify risks and recommend evidence-based interventions.
7.Collaborate with state, local, and federal agencies to coordinate emergency responses.
8.Ensure compliance with state and federal public health regulations.
9.Provide mentorship and training to epidemiologists, public health professionals, and healthcare partners

Minimum Qualification
Requires an MD, licensure and certification to practice in New Mexico and two (2) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field above licensure requirements and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, stooping, bending, reaching and lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds may be required. Some travel with the occasional overnight stay may be required.
