The New Mexico Medical Board (NMMB) is the state agency responsible for the regulation over 10,000 licensees including medical doctors (physicians), physician assistants, anesthesiologist assistants, genetic counselors, polysomnographic technologists, naturopaths and naprapaths.

This job exists to oversee and manage the investigation of potential violations of medical practice acts, ensuring that investigations are conducted in compliance with relevant statutes and regulations. The role involves supervising investigators, assigning cases, and handling complex investigations. It also includes providing expertise in gathering evidence, analyzing complaints, preparing reports, and collaborating with legal counsel and the Board's prosecutor. Additionally, the position supports the development of regulations through participation in rule-making committees and offers strategic recommendations based on investigative trends and outcomes.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, Public Administration, Criminology, or other related field and two (2) years of experience in accounting, auditing, and investigation, or insurance adjusting and investigating or investigative report writing. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is usually performed in an office setting, with extensive exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), personal computer, printer, calculator, copy machine, scanner, and telephone usage. Extensive travel will be required. Extended periods of sitting and some lifting may be required.

- Initiating formal investigations in collaboration with the Board based on complaints and suspected violations
- Supervising three full-time investigators, ensuring thorough and timely investigations in compliance with statutes and regulations
- Assigning cases to investigators based on the complexity of the case, investigator expertise, and workload balance
- Handling complex investigations, collaborating with the Board's prosecutor and testifying at hearings when necessary
- Presenting professional testimony at hearings as required by the investigation
- Opening board-initiated complaints based on suspected violations of medical practice acts
- Preparing detailed investigative reports, outlining findings, evidence, and suggested actions
- Participating in the Board rule-making committee, providing insights and recommendations based on investigative outcomes and trends
- Reviewing and assessing of information from other states regarding disciplinary actions or complaints involving medical practitioners
