What are the responsibilities and job description for the Human Resources Coordinator position at Stearns Companies?
Manages the Human Resource Function and Labor Relations of all Stearns Companies, Dick’s Auto Salvage, ED’s 24-hour Service, Dick’s Towing Services facilities, and Performance Trucking and personnel. Compile and keep personnel records, timekeeping and payroll. Record data for each employee, such as address, absences, amount of sales production, supervisory reports, and date of and reason for termination. May prepare reports for employment records, file employment records, or search employee files and furnish information to authorized persons.

- Process, verify, and maintain personnel related documentation, including staffing, recruitment, training, grievance, performance evaluations, classifications, and employee leave of absence.
- Explain company personnel policies, benefits, and procedures to employees or job applicants.
- Record data for each employee, including such information as addresses, weekly earnings, absences, amount of sales or production, supervisory reports on performance, dates of and reasons for terminations.
- Gather personnel records from other departments or employees.
- Examine employee files to answer inquiries and provide information for personnel actions.
- Answer questions regarding examinations, eligibility, salaries, benefits, and other pertinent information.
- Compile and prepare reports and documents pertaining to personnel activities.
- Provide assistance in administering employee benefit programs and worker’s compensation plans.
- Search employee files to obtain information for authorized persons and organizations, such as credit bureaus and Finance companies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
Experience Required:
- Minimum of an Associate’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business, or Organizational Development or equivalent.
- 1 to 3 plus years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources positions.
- Experience in Transportation Industry preferred but not required
- State of Ohio Notary Public preferred but not required
Skilled/Abilities Required:
- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
- Effective oral and written communication
- A strong understanding of employment laws and practices
- Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment and experience with various HRIS.
- Familiarity with payroll and recruiting software
- Able to analyze written documentation.
