What are the responsibilities and job description for the Career Navigator position at SVRC Industries?
PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITY:
The Career Navigator serves as the initial point of contact for job seekers, offering a warm welcome and assisting them as they enter the Michigan Works! Service Center. The Career Navigator plays a critical role in connecting job seekers with appropriate internal and external resources, tailored to their unique needs. By gathering information and assessing job seekers? goals, the Career Navigator provides expert guidance on available services, ensuring that individuals receive personalized support for their career journey. This position is also responsible for recruiting for all Michigan Works programs and services. The Career Navigator will acquire a comprehensive understanding of Michigan Works? offerings and determine the most relevant programs or services for each job seeker. Additionally, the Career Navigator will facilitate smooth transitions by making appropriate referrals to Employment Service Advisers and Career Coaches.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Introduce participants to the Michigan Works! system, explaining available programs, services, and opportunities while familiarizing them with the facility.
- Guide job seekers to relevant workshops and resources, such as PMTC and other online job platforms, to enhance their job search strategies.
- Refer job seekers to workshops focused on creating effective resumes using industry-standard formats and tools.
- Provide resources and guidance for career exploration and job search planning through dedicated websites and activities.
- Direct participants to appropriate Michigan Works! programs, workshops, job fairs, and training services based on their individual needs and goals.
- Assist in the development of informative displays and exhibits that highlight current career and employment opportunities.
- Actively participate in recruitment and community outreach by representing Michigan Works! at career fairs, job fairs, roundtables, and other local events.
- Ensure job seekers are informed about all available services within the one-stop delivery system.
- Oversee the sign-in process for Service Center visitors, ensuring proper tracking through the sign-in platform.
- Manage scheduling of office spaces, rooms, and equipment for workshops, meetings, and events.
- Safeguard confidential information regarding agency operations, staff, and customers, ensuring all data is handled securely.
- Engage in continuous professional development through literature, seminars, conferences, and in-service training to stay current with industry trends and best practices.
- Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, ensuring job seekers have productive, positive, and supportive experiences.
- Exhibit strong verbal and written communication abilities to convey information clearly and concisely to both individuals and groups.
- Provide job seekers with information about Single Company Job Fairs and other recruitment opportunities available at the Service Center.
- Actively participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and achieve optimal outcomes.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the overall mission of Michigan Works!.
MARGINAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Meet regularly with SVRC managers to stay updated on program changes and developments.
- Assist with administrative tasks such as copying, faxing, and filing as needed.
- Attend meetings, workshops, and seminars to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Collaborate with program staff and/or the Director to provide additional support as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate?s degree in a related field.
- In lieu of a degree, five years of relevant work experience, including demonstrated experience in customer service and public interaction.
- Proven ability to effectively engage, motivate, and assist the public in a professional manner.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities are essential for effective interaction with diverse groups of individuals.
- Ability to prioritize and organize tasks efficiently to meet deadlines and goals.
- Must be able to meet travel demands associated with the position, including attending outreach and recruitment events.
- Familiarity with office software, job search platforms, and virtual communication tools is desirable.
