Experienced Dog Trainer
At The DOG, we help families and their dogs live the good life! Offering obedience training, behavior modification, daily play, and overnight boarding, all with door-to-door service to our 130 acre Putnam Valley facility. For over 15 years, our on-site training programs have helped build deep and satisfying relationships between dogs and their families.
We are in search of an experienced, talented trainer to join our extraordinary team of certified trainers and behaviorists.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 2 years experience teaching private, one-on-one lessons in clients’ homes
- Sound knowledge of a variety of dog training techniques, as well as body language and behavior signals
- Knowledge of dog psychology and the ability to apply it effectively
- Strong dog handling skills
- Required administrative and interpersonal skills:

- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Must be physically capable of handling active and large dogs, standing and walking for long periods of time
Please note: We do not use or allow aversive training techniques
Responsibilities
- Teach one-on-one private lessons to clients in Manhattan and Brooklyn to enforce and maintain the behaviors and skills learned by their dogs during our board and train program
- Work with the dogs who come to our Putnam Valley facility for the board and train program as part of our training team, using training techniques tailored to each dog’s personality and breed
- Work with the training team to develop suitable training plans for the dogs, and documenting their progress
- Support the training team with training knowledge and expertise
- Work with dogs of all breeds, ages, and temperaments
- Maintain a professional, patient, and supportive approach with both the dogs and their owners
- Consult with clients to discuss behavior concerns and training needs, as well as identifying additional behavior concerns and communicating them to clients
- Provide regular progress updates to clients
- Answer clients' questions regarding training, behavior issues, boarding, and pricing
- Contact clients to schedule training appointments, verify bookings, and inquire into overdue payments
- Represent The DOG in a professional, and positive manner
