The University of Iowa Department of Athletics seeks applications for an Event Coordinator Intern. This is a full-time (at-will and FLSA-non-exempt) position. Fringe benefits are not included. Salary is set at $16.00 an hour.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with hiring, training, and management of Event management student assistants.
- Assist in management of assigned sports
- Coordinate pre-planning activities, including communicating with visiting teams, officials, television, other Athletics units, vendors, and external entities.
- Recruit, schedule and train event personnel and volunteers
- Develop sport-specific event management, visiting team, and Championship/Tournament manuals.
- Conduct on-site management activities, including fulfillment of working staff, volunteer, and team needs
- Assist in the planning and management of Big Ten and NCAA Championship events.
- Act as a liaison between Athletics units, University service units and organizations, and community businesses to conduct operations
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in athletic administration, marketing, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships.
- Working knowledge of and ability to: Utilize basic office supports software (word processing, email, presentation software, and spreadsheets) and operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week which may include evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
Desired qualifications:
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to accept direction and constructive criticism.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to do variety of tasks.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).
