The Amherst Recreation Department is seeking a part-time Golf Course Attendant to perform various work at the Cherry Hill Golf Course and Pro Shop.

 

Position Description:

(The position has two different parts- one indoor and one outdoor. It is not necessary to have interest/experience in both, as the two aspects of the Pro Shop Attendant are meant to complement each other.)

Customer Service at Pro Shop: Maintains, prices and stocks inventory, manages payment and performs prescribed housekeeping duties.

Starter/Ranger on the Golf Course: Monitors play and enforces club rules at opening tees and across the course.

Essential Functions:

• Demonstrates proficient and quality customer service

• Ensures adequate supply of forms, sports equipment, and materials. Orders high quality equipment and materials. Receives prices and stocks retail materials.

• Responds to customer inquiries which includes communicating Pro-Shop policies.

• Handles cash, checks, credit cards and other payment forms, accurately.

• Ensures safe, clean, and comfortable experience for customers, such as wiping clean and dry golf carts. Performs prescribed and posted cleaning and housekeeping duties.

• Reads log book notes and notices, regularly and follows instructions.

• Ensures security of Pro Shop by maintaining locked entrances and exits. Permits admittance only to authorize personnel during non-store hours.

• Checks play time of foursomes on 9 or 18 holes. Logs information.

• Completes accounting of cash in presence of closing attendant. Records cash and other receipts on transaction forms.

• Deposits cash as instructed.

• Records daily events in logs, including data such as weather conditions, activities, vandalism, injuries, illnesses, minor violations of golfers, and/or other unusual occurrences.

• Completes time and attendance sheets in accordance with state labor regulations.

• Assists with building maintenance as requested.

• Perform similar or related work as required, directed or as the situation dictates.

• Represents the clubhouse on all matters. Wields the authority to penalize behavior on the golf course that detracts from the culture or efficiency of the daily operations.

• Enforces tee times as a Starter at the first tee, in accordance with registration information.

• Observes and upholds order as a Ranger throughout the course, in accordance with clubhouse rules and expectations.

• Ensures the safety of all participants

• Ensures the respectful care of clubhouse grounds and equipment

• Monitors pace-of-play, especially in busiest times, and intervenes in situations where pace conflicts arise.

• Maintains communication with the clubhouse

• Assists with golfers on the course when needed

• Fills in for clubhouse duties when needed

The Clubhouse Attendant is required to stand or walk or sit, talk and hear for extended periods; is frequently required to bend, stoop, twist, turn; uses hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reaches with hands and arms; drives and performs minor repairs on golf course equipment; ability to operate cash register, card reader, telephone, computer, standard office equipment, and keyboard; occasionally lifts up to 25lbs. Performs unskilled building maintenance.

The Starter/Ranger is required to be able to operate a golf cart and to be on alert for extended periods of time. Must be able to get quickly from one area of the course to another in event of an emergency.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Education, Training and Experience:
Must be 18 years of age. High School degree or equivalent is preferred. One year of participation in the game of golf on a recreational basis or any combination of related education and experience is required. Previous cash handling is required. Demonstrated customer service experience is a must. Knowledge of building maintenance is desired.

Knowledge, Ability and Skill:
Knowledge. Knowledge of golf’s game, rules, regulations. Basic knowledge of business math to accurately count currency. Familiarity with community golf facilities and equipment. Knowledge and ability to read, write, and demonstrate reading comprehension. Knowledge of customer servicing skills. Knowledge of basic accounting principles.

Ability. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to communicate in a second language is helpful. Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions, both verbal and written. Ability to interact and communicate respectfully with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds. Ability to operate office equipment including computer, credit card reader, cash register, and other standard office equipment. Ability to perform data entry. Ability to generate computer reports. Ability to count and record inventory. Ability to use computer software such as MS Office Word and Excel. Ability to coordinate golf game schedules and work with the general public, greens employees, staff, supervision, and merchants. Ability to provide proficient customer servicing with customers, merchants, the general public, and other employees. Ability to maintain safety of equipment. Ability to maintain clean equipment. Ability to operate golf course equipment. Ability to judge to appropriately permit entry to Pro Shop after-hour and before opening times. Ability to perform unskilled building maintenance.

Skill. Skill to organize. Skill to accurately count cash and sales receipts. Proficient customer service skills. Skill to record, add and subtract cash and input credit card entries. Skill to complete transaction forms for cash deposits. Skill to record and complete inventory of merchandise. Skill to perform minor building maintenance tasks. Skill to evaluate and conduct cleaning and housekeeping tasks. Skill to operate computer, telephone, cash register, credit card devices and standard office equipment. Skill to operate golf carts.

Supervision:
Supervision Scope: Exercises limited range of skills for operation of the Pro Shop including proficient customer service, conducting inventories, cash management, marketing and selling. Uses established procedures and policies to make decisions.

Supervision Received: Works under the supervision of the Sports Director, Recreation Department. Follows prescribed policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Cooperates with greens crew.

Supervision Given: May provide direction and instruction to Greenskeeper.

Job Environment:
• Work is generally performed in Pro-Shop/office conditions and outdoors on golf carts requiring exposure to 
various weather conditions, noise levels are moderate.

• Operates cash registers, credit card readers, computers, telephone, electronic equipment, copiers, facsimile machines, other standard office equipment, and golf course equipment.

• Makes regular contacts with customers, the general public, supervision, greens crew, and other department employees. Most contacts involve an information exchange.

• Has limited access to program-oriented financial information.

• Has no access to confidential data.

• Errors in judgement and administration could result in minor adverse impact on Town’s ability to deliver services and/or result in minimal monetary losses.
