Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounts Payable Clerk to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the company’s accounts payable processes, ensuring timely and accurate payments to vendors, and maintaining financial records in compliance with GAAP standards. This role requires strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Process and verify invoices for payment, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
  • Maintain the accounts payable ledger by posting transactions and reconciling discrepancies.
  • Assist in month-end closing activities related to accounts payable.
  • Prepare reports on accounts payable activity for management review.
  • Collaborate with other departments, including human resources and payroll management, to ensure proper documentation and processing of payments.
  • Support audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations regarding accounts payable transactions.
  • Utilize accounting software such as Paychex for efficient processing of payments and record maintenance.

Experience

  • Proven experience in corporate accounting or a similar role, with a strong understanding of technical accounting principles.
  • Familiarity with GAAP standards is essential.
  • Experience with accounts receivable processes is a plus.
  • Knowledge of general ledger accounting practices.
  • Previous exposure to governmental accounting practices is beneficial.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment while managing individual responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in accounting software; experience with Harris is preferred.

  • Thorough knowledge of personnel and payroll practices and principles and their relationship to accounting and legal requirements.
  • Ability to understand and apply policies and regulations to the maintenance of financial and accounting records and reports.
  • General knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, policies and practices to follow in the payroll function.
  • Working knowledge of personnel laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to understand and apply policies and regulations to the maintenance of financial and payroll records and reports and to personnel situations.
  • Ability to use computer and other equipment for the maintenance of payroll records.
  • Ability to verify accounting and payroll documents and forms for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to make arithmetic computations accurately and with reasonable speed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with department heads, employees and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
  • Ability to use judgment and discretion in handling payroll, personnel related issues, accounting and other fiscal matters.
  • Accuracy in preparation of records and data entry.
  • Ability to learn and use financial and payroll software to complete job functions including Tyler Technologies.
  • Must be able to perform the basic life operational skills of kneeling, reaching, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to perform sedentary work, exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
  • Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, to do accounting tasks, to operate a computer terminal, and to read extensively.

Graduation from a community college with a major in accounting or business, and 2-3 years of experience in financial operations, accounting and fiscal office environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.94 - $20.53 per hour

Expected hours: 16 per week

Schedule:

  • 4 hour shift
  • Day shift
  • No weekends

Work Location: In person
