What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant town clerk position at TOWN OF LONGMEADOW?

The Longmeadow Clerks Department is seeking a FT Assistant Town Clerk : 40 hours per week. Position is responsible for assisting the Town Clerk in the overall operation of the department in accordance with State, local, and Federal laws, and in the temporary absence of the Town Clerk, the Assistant Town Clerk is required to perform the duties of the Town Clerk during the absence.

Successful candidate must have :

Knowledge of relevant Massachusetts General Laws related to essential functions, especially those related to the Open Meeting Law, Public Records Law, and elections.

Working knowledge of office administration, record keeping, and automated office systems; Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Excel, Google Docs, and access database software in support of department operations.

Ability to multi-task and manage conflict. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain good public relations and to maintain effective collaborative working relationships with Town departments, department heads, fellow employees, officials and the general public and to respond in a courteous and professional manner.

Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work independently. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deal effectively with frequent interruptions, time deadlines, and disgruntled customers.

Ability to establish and maintain detailed and accurate records keeping systems. Effective leadership and supervisory skills.

Strong communication skills, problem-solving skills and customer service skills.

High School diploma or equivalent, and 3 to 5 years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, certification, and experience.
