Primary Functions of this Position

The Production Scheduler is responsible for planning, coordinating, and optimizing production schedules to ensure efficient manufacturing operations in a high-mix, low-volume medical device environment. This role balances material availability, labor capacity, and equipment utilization to meet customer demand while adhering to regulatory compliance and quality standards. The scheduler collaborates with cross-functional teams to drive operational efficiency, minimize lead times, and ensure on-time delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and adjust production schedules based on sales forecasts, order priorities, and resource availability.
  • Coordinate with procurement, engineering, and production teams to ensure materials, components, and tooling are available for scheduled builds.
  • Optimize scheduling strategies to minimize setup times, reduce waste, and improve throughput while accommodating frequent product mix changes.
  • Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) and proactively address scheduling conflicts, bottlenecks, or delays.
  • Monitors the materials inventories, tracks the progress of production, and reviews factors that affect production schedules, then communicates these points to all relevant parties.
  • Using available tools (MRP, Forecasts, and Backlog reports), makes recommendations regarding schedule changes as necessary.
  • Ensures that project/ department milestones/ goals are met as assigned by the Director of Manufacturing.
  • Takes responsibility for inventory levels of all items on the production floor, including supplies, production materials, etc.
  • Provides support to the VP of Manufacturing in all aspects of scheduling, planning, and any other areas needed.
  • Maintains accurate documentation and reporting related to scheduling activities.
  • Performs other work-related duties as requested, directed or assigned by management.

Working Relationships

  • Communicate to Production Technicians and Managers at all levels.
  • Communicate production priorities and schedule updates to manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams.
  • Work closely with supply chain teams to manage inventory levels and prevent shortages or overstock situations.
  • Collaborate with engineering and R&D teams to integrate new product introductions (NPIs) into the production schedule efficiently.
  • Interface with customer service and sales teams to provide accurate lead times and delivery commitments.

Education and Experience

  • Requires 1-3 years of experience in related areas as an individual contributor
  • Strong knowledge of production planning, scheduling principles, and capacity planning in a regulated manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems for scheduling and inventory management.
  • Ability to analyze data and use key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive scheduling decisions.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Able to develop extensive knowledge of the department's functions and processes in high-mix, low-volume medical device manufacturing.
  • Able to make recommendations for staffing needs and schedules to meet the day-to-day production goals.
  • Able to become familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures of manufacturing and those specific to the organization.
  • Able to perform a variety of complex tasks.
  • Has good written and verbal communication skills; able to read, understand, and follow written instructions for production processes and assembly.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with management and co-workers is essential; must be able to work well with all levels of personnel, whether individually or in a team environment.
  • Willing to work overtime as required.
  • Proficient in PCs and computer-based productivity applications, specifically Microsoft Office.
  • Must be safety conscious.

  • No Direct Reports

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and to adhere to safety requirements including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
