Navajo Preference Employment Act

Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

Materials Handler performs and maintains a variety of warehousing duties required in the maintenance of the store rooms for medical supplies, equipment/materials and accountability. Incumbent is responsible for ensuring compliance with policies and procedures and other internal controls to provide for the control and safeguard of TCRHCC assets. 

Qualifications

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

  • Must complete training on inventory and supply chain management with department
  • Must have knowledge or experience of basic computer functions

Other Skills and Abilities:

A record of satisfactory performance in all prior and current employment as evidenced by positive employment references from previous and current employers. All employment references must address and indicate success in each one of the following areas:

  • Reliable and dependable; reports to work as scheduled without excessive absences

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

The physical and mental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an   employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Physical:

Incumbent must be able to stand, walk, and maintain balance for ¾ of workday; frequently will need to be able to sit, bend, twist, and reach; occasionally will need to drive, climb, kneel, and crouch. Incumbent will be required to be able to lift, push and pull up to 25 pounds ¾ of day; must be able to lift to 50 pounds frequently; and up to over 100 pounds occasionally. Incumbent must be able to push/pull up to over 100bs frequently. Sensory requirements include the ability for far, near, color vision; depth perception; seeing fine details; hearing normal speech for a prolonged period during workday. Must be able to frequently use the telephone and occasionally hear overhead pages on a loudspeaker. Incumbent must be able to utilize hand manipulation for simple/firm grasping, fine manipulation and use of keyboards for prolonged period.

Mental:

The Incumbent must be able to concentrate for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to frequently cope with high level of stress; make decisions under high pressure; copy with anger/fear/hostility of others in a calm way; handle a high degree of flexibility; handle multiple priorities in stressful situation; work alone; demonstrate high degree of patience; adapt to shift work. May occasionally can manage altercations. Incumbent will need to be able to accept flexible schedule to meet unit needs.

Environmental:

Incumbent may experience prolonged exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; frequently exposure to infectious diseases; extremes in temperature or humidity; hazardous or moving equipment; and, loud noises; occasional exposure to chemical agents and unprotected heights.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Receives, unloads, and processes incoming shipments; assembles items into groups based on information shown on the receiving documents and separates supplies according to such factors as conditions of shipment, type of shipment or property class and routes along appropriate processing lines.
  • Routes medical supplies not requiring inspections to proper or to the designated organization units, and items or equipment to be re-shipped to shipping or packing activities.
  • Follows established procedures for when and how to report overages, shortages or damaged shipments to the supervisor or other proper persons responsible for handling such matters. Retrieves and stores all equipment for proper disposals, ensuring security and accountability.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with the MSDS following instructions on proper handling to ensure safe handling.
  • Selects items for shipment or issue and sees that items ready for shipment are properly assembled in the loading area according to information provided on the shipping requests; checks the condition of shipping containers prior to loading; and sees that shipments are properly loaded on the right conveyances; completes and signs shipping and receiving reports; completes assignments with the general warehousing plan. Informs Lead Support Services Specialist or departmental supervisor of issues/concerns a corrective course of action.
  • Maintains Stock levels, Inventory, issue, stock and re-orders all inventory items. This is a prerequisite with all direct and self-service storage patient care areas.
  • Participate in department inventory counts and assist supervisor in maintaining correct stock levels for hospital needs.
  • Maintains tight security of store rooms and other storage areas and keeps them clean at all times, stocked in an orderly and organized manner.
  • Responsible for processing outgoing official metered mail on a daily basis, which involves sorting, metering and delivering official mail to the Post Office, and will pick up official mail from the Post Office and assist with distribution of mail.
  • Will serve as an incidental Motor Vehicle Operator as the need arises to transport blood, lab specimen. This will involve being on a rotating on-call for the driver duties, and will:
  • Drive a variety of vehicles safely, including four-wheel drive, ½ ton pickup, van, sedan and forklift.
  • Responsible for the total maintenance of assigned vehicles by keeping them clean, serviced, repaired and filled with gas and oil at all times.
  • Schedules inspections according to GSA timetable. Maintains all necessary vehicles maintenance and mechanical attention.
  • Participates in mandatory in-services regarding Fire Safety and OSHA. Understand and adheres to established compliance, safety, and quality assurance standards.
  • Must be available for on-call status and call-back, which requires a 15 minute response time.
  • Ensure proper PPE is worn at all times while on duty including but not limited to, face mask, gloves, gown, isolation gown, NIOSH-approved N95 filtering facepiece respirator or higher, if available), and eye or face shield.
  • Complete all donning and doffing tasks in a safe acceptable method and discard of used PPE accordingly. (see CDC website for most current updates)
  • Complete task training for all routine cleaning and decontamination processes for all surfaces contaminated by a communicable disease to ensure a high level of patient, visitor, employee, and external customer satisfaction.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
