Primary responsibilities include teaching courses in agricultural communications, advising the Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow student organization, and engaging with stakeholders around the development of the James F. Evans Global Center for Food and Agricultural Communications. Initial appointments are typically at the rank of Instructor, Lecturer, Teaching Assistant Professor. Senior level appointment to Sr. Instructor/Lecturer or Teaching Associate Professor or Teaching Professor may be available for candidates with significant additional experience and stature.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThis position will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in agricultural communications both online and in person, be the lead faculty advisor to the robust and nationally recognized Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow student organization, advise and recruit undergraduate students in a robust and growing agricultural communication concentration in the department, and engage with alumni and other stakeholders in leading the development of the James F. Evans Global Center for Food and Agricultural Communications. The incumbent will join a growing and exciting team of faculty in the Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication program in the College of ACES that is working toward full department status. Finally the position will represent the program, the host colleges, and the University of Illinois through active association with colleagues, alumni, programming partners and other related publics locally to internationally. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Graduate degree in the field of agricultural communications, agricultural education or other closely related field. Individuals working toward a graduate degree may be considered, but the degree must be obtained by the starting date.Individuals with a MS degree may be appointed as Instructor. PhD is required for Lecturer or Teaching Professor position.Experience: Required: Demonstrated teaching effectiveness and leadership potential commensurate with position sought. Excellent organizational skills. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate effective communications skills and the ability to support developing these skills themselves. Candidates must demonstrate a deep appreciation of the land-grant mission and the role of communications related to food, agriculture, and the environment. Candidates need demonstrated familiarity with food and agricultural systems media and methods, careers, personnel, trends and issues related to mass communications in the United States, strong inter personal skills, and the capacity to foster an environment that encourages excellence in teaching. Preferred: Significant experience in course development and instruction in both online and face to face environments in the context of higher education. We seek a colleague who can teach courses in composition in agricultural communications, media and media production processes, and global agricultural communications. The ideal candidate would have a background in the history and impact of the land-grant university system. Also, the successful candidate should be able to develop and implement graduate level agricultural communications courses. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The budgeted salary range for this position varies by academic rank with the typical salary ranges as follows: $60,000 - $67,000 across the Instructor levels, $65,000 - $72,000 across the Lecturer levels, and $70,000 - $90,000 across the Teaching Assistant/Associate/Full Professor levels.
