Urban Rural Action is a national grassroots movement that brings together Americans across divides to tackle our country's most urgent challenges.

Program Overview

Uniting for Action on the Economy in Southern Oregon (U4A) is a non-partisan civic engagement effort that will bring together ~28 community members (Uniters) in four counties (Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, and Klamath) to build relationships across differences, strengthen collaboration skills, explore different views on economic issues, and work together to address economic challenges.

The program will be spearheaded by Urban Rural Action (UR Action) in partnership with four community organizations, one in each of the four counties. The program will span Feb 2024 - Nov 2024 and include 6 in-person, all-day gatherings (workshops). The program builds upon the current implementation of the Uniting for Action program in Oregon.

Main Responsibilities of U4A County Coordinators

The 4 County Coordinators (one per county) will serve on a Core Team that also includes 2 Program Co-Directors.

Overall Purpose of the Core Team: Ensure successful program implementation (i.e., meet program goals). The Core Team will meet weekly to 1) review program status and troubleshoot issues, 2) review draft content for gatherings, and 3) agree on communication to the cohort.

Specific County Coordinator responsibilities:

Lead recruitment of applicants in your county (Oct - Dec 2023)

Participate in the Uniters cohort participant selection process

Help with logistics for each program gathering, with particular focus on gatherings held in your county

Serve as Team Advisor for your county's project team

Help manage relationship with the Community Partner organization in your county

Lead facilitation of project team discussions

Conduct brief periodic 1-on-1 check-ins with Uniters

Experience & Qualifications

  • Ability to set aside ideological views in service of achieving program goal: collaborating across differences to address economic challenges
  • Tenacious community organizing skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing needs
  • Language: Fluent English speaker. Spanish is a plus.

Hours and Schedule: Estimated ~24 hours/month, with fluctuations. Generally flexible hours, but with a need to participate in (1) program gatherings in person on several Saturdays (9am - 5pm, dates to be decided by you and other Core Team members), and (2) weekly Core Team planning meetings, including during the business day. The projected duration for this role in September 1, 2023, through November 30, 2024.

Compensation: $840/month (based on $35/hour wage and estimated ~24 hours/month). You will be paid twice monthly (on the 15th and 30th). All program-related transportation expenses will be reimbursed.
