What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESH Specialist position at Uses Group?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Coordinates safety programs and enforces all safety rules and procedures set forth by USES and the plants that are worked in. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for insuring USES, OSHA, MSHA, DOT, EPA and State DEQ safety compliance requirements for his/ her assigned location/s of responsibility.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform job observations/ SHARPs.
Conduct weekly/ bi-monthly/ monthly safety meetings.
Conduct/ helps participate in special training meetings, annual review training and all periodic safety training updates.
Assist with interviewing, hiring and training of new employees.
Investigate and bring resolution any near misses and accidents.
Insures all training, medical, driver and DOT employee records are current according to all corporate guidelines.
Insures the timely gathering, data entry and statistical analysis of all job observations from assigned location/ locations.
Insure the timely communication of the previous job observations results on: 1) statistical deficiency analysis 2) employee participation in the job process vs. corporate goals for participation.
Help insure the timely completion and reporting of quarterly hose testing to the region and corporate safety offices.
Consults with account managers and field supervisors on an as needed basis to review job procedures for safe work practices.
Helps insure the maintenance of SDS's for chemicals used Conducts a periodic facility audit/s to insure USES, OSHA, MSHA, EPA, State DEQ and DOT compliance standards.
Works plant turnaround and shutdown schedules as required by branch management.
Participates in all assigned plant contractor safety meetings, audits and JRA.
Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with all plant safety and operational personnel.
Helps insure the gathering, assimilation and reporting of contractor qualification information when required.
To be active with key clients organizations in a manner that will assure an understanding of the individual organizations policies and rules as well as input to their policy development.
Must be willing to work flexible hours during times of increased work activity.
Must be willing to take calls after hours in case of emergency or immediate customer need.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree in Occupational health and safety and/or 5 years experience and a safety certification
3-5 years experience in a similar industry with increasing supervisory experience.
Basic Understanding of the Federal, State and Local OSHA & DOT rules and regulations
Technical Certifications such as SHEP, CSHO, COSS, or equivalent, etc.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power-Point as well as the ability to learn other customized software applications
