Position Summary:
The professional nursing faculty position is primarily responsible for the instruction of associate degree students in the registered nurse programs. Responsibilities include the ability to teach lecture (in-person and/or on-line), lab, simulation and clinical in any of the nursing program courses.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Instruct courses in lecture, lab, simulation and clinical settings through the use of appropriate learning experiences, teaching methods, and learning technologies which provide the opportunity to meet overall course objectives and program goals.
- Knowledge of and willingness to teach online and blended.
- Demonstrate all necessary preparations for instruction of assigned courses including but not limited to course syllabus and Blackboard site.
- Evaluate student progress through documentation of examinations, observations, and written and verbal student performance.
- Establish and maintain a classroom environment conducive to student learning.
- Actively support student success through advising and assisting individual students as needed.
- Participate in department, division, and general faculty meetings, all applicable College committee activities, and other forms of College service.
- Participate actively in professional activities such as, but not limited to, student outcome assessment and documentation, curriculum planning, syllabus writing, examination development, textbook selection, program evaluation/revision and other professional planning activities on a year-round basis.
- Maintain an active program of professional development related to individual, professional, and institutional needs.
- Knowledge of and willingness to participate/coordinate clinical simulation experiences.
- Demonstrate a general understanding of the general rules, standards, and criteria of the Michigan Board of Nursing and ACEN (Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing).
- Knowledge of National Board of Nursing NCLEX examination test plan and awareness of importance of implementation across all aspects of the curriculum.
- Teach and evaluate students effectively in nursing clinical environments.
- Maintain positive communication with students, peers, and affiliating health care and community agencies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Earned Masters of Science in Nursing from a regionally-accredited institution required.
- Current Michigan license and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Minimum three (3) years of Nursing experience required.
- Ability to appropriately use standard office and instructional software and tools.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience at the Community College level or higher.
- Online and virtual teaching experience.
- Curriculum and assessment experience, including distance learning and online course design, development, and delivery method experience.
