Western Technologies Inc., a leader in consulting engineering services throughout the southwestern United States, has an Entry Level Environmental Scientist opportunity with our team in Tucson, Arizona.
General Responsibilities
The Environmental Scientist will perform building inspections, field surveys, indoor air monitoring, and abatement project oversight involving chemical and fuel contaminants, asbestos, lead-based paint, and mold. You will have the opportunity to work under and learn from technical experts, principals, and project managers with limited to moderate supervision.
Functions and Duties
• Follows standard operating procedures to accomplish specific and limited portions of scientific assignments.
• Assist in the collection and analysis of data from sampling, reports, maps, drawings, tests, aerial photographs, maps, and other sources to evaluate impacts on projects.
• Applies standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results and follow operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
• Performs other office, laboratory or field studies and duties that may be assigned by more senior level professional staff or the Department Manager.
• Prepares well-developed technical writing skills, ability to effectively communicate in multimedia formats, capability with the Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
• Performs site visits, field observations and field data collection during field assignments.
• Will have limited client contact pertaining to specific projects / tasks.
Required Qualifications
Degree in a physical science, engineering, environmental science, or industrial hygiene is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
• EPA AHERA certifications as Inspector and/or Contractor/Supervisor
• Current EPA Lead Paint Inspector or Risk Assessor license preferred.
• Current OSHA Hazardous Waste Site Operations 40-hour training.
• Direct related work experience.
