What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at WETA?

Reports to: Controller
We’re looking to hire an Assistant Controller for our Finance and Accounting. The Assistant Controller will provide daily oversight of accounting operations. You will manage Accounts Receivable and the Accounts Payable staff. In this role you will also manage accounting cycle and closing processes, maintain integrity of General Ledger, monitor compliance, lead audits, and manage preparation of various reports. Report to, assist and serve as back up to the Controller.
In an average week, you can expect to:
- Manage Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable staff.
- Manage the accounting cycle and closing processes to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Maintain integrity of the General Ledger.
- Ensure complete and up-to-date written operating policies and procedures for accounting manual. Conduct routine reviews of accounting processes and procedures.
What success looks like:
- After 60 days, you’ll know the Finance & Accounting team and what each staff member is responsible for. You’ll have met key stakeholders from various departments within our organization. You’ll be reviewing and posting journal entries as well as managing the monthly close, ensuring timely completion and accurate reconciliations.
- After 120 days, you’ll understand process flows and have ideas of where improvements can be implemented. You’ll manage the annual financial statement audit and working with our external auditors.
You must have:
- Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP and general ledger procedures.
- Knowledge of project and non-profit accounting and federal grant reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively organize, lead, and manage staff and their work.
You should have:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field required. CPA preferred.
- Minimum five years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including minimum of three years of accounting supervisory/management experience.
Proof of full dosage of a COVID-19 vaccination is required for all positions that will be working onsite, or may reasonably or occasionally be called to work onsite.
