What are the responsibilities and job description for the Data Archiving Research Fellowship position at Zintellect?
What will I be doing?
This fellowship opportunity aims to develop an institute-wide best practice in research study data archiving, with the intent that the Data Science team developed computational tools that can be readily applied to this data across the Institute. The research participant will be guided by Data Science mentors who reside within the different USARIEM divisions. Under the guidance of a mentor, this fellowship will involve independent research to identify best practices in disparate data-archiving approaches to scientific data. The research participant will examine questions about data ownership, data protections, and credit for future use of data. During this fellowship, the participant will examine institutional inertia and data protectionism often encountered in research organizations in projects of this type and the different means to overcome these real barriers. The participant will also develop relationships with Principal Investigators who would like to be early adopters and demonstrate success.
Why should I apply?
Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant will gain experience to complement their education and support their academic and professional goals. This appointment will provide training and skill experience in the following areas:
- Data Archiving
- Independent research experience
- Experience in being a part of a research team
- Data collection, data analysis, and computational tools
Where will I be located?
These activities will be primarily on-site at USARIEM (Natick, MA).
What is the anticipated start date?
The USARIEM is ready to make appointments for SUMMER 2023. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, and internships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.
Appointment Length
An ORISE appointment period can be a short-term (less than two weeks), summer (10-12 weeks), or year-long appointment. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.
What are the benefits?
You will receive a stipend to be determined by the Department of Defense (DoD). Stipends are typically based on a participant's academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other benefits may include the following:
- Health Insurance Supplement (Participants are eligible to purchase health insurance through ORISE)
- Relocation Allowance
- Training and Travel Allowance
Nature of Appointment
The participant will not enter into an employee/employer relationship with ORISE, ORAU, DOD, or any other office or agency. Instead, the participant will be affiliated with ORISE for the administration of the appointment through the ORISE appointment letter and Terms of Appointment.
