Roles and Responsibilities:
Windows Server Administration & Virtualization
- Design, deploy, and manage Windows Server infrastructure (primarily on Windows Server 2019), as well as hypervisors (VMware, Hyper-V, etc.).
- Configure, patch, and monitor virtualization environments to ensure optimal performance, scalability, and security.
- Coordinate with internal teams to schedule and perform monthly/quarterly patches (OS, .NET, etc.) using tools like SCCM (System Center Configuration Manager).
Security & Compliance
- Identify and remediate system vulnerabilities (e.g., via VAPT exercises), ensuring compliance with security guidelines.
- Configure and maintain Symantec Endpoint Protection or similar antivirus tools.
- Manage Group Policies, Active Directory (OUs, account reviews), and High Availability setups.
Networking & Infrastructure
- Implement and manage networking solutions (LAN/WAN, VPNs, firewalls, load balancers) to support organizational needs.
- Troubleshoot network-related issues (DNS, firewall rules, reverse proxies, SSL certs, etc.) to ensure security and efficiency.
- Support and maintain network security groups, ensuring adherence to internal and industry best practices.
Server Setup & Maintenance
- Set up, configure, and maintain physical servers, including hardware installation (mounting, cabling) in the data center.
- Perform regular maintenance, updates, and upgrades on servers to ensure high availability and reliability.
- Monitor server performance (e.g., via SCOM—System Center Operations Manager) and troubleshoot hardware/software issues as needed.
- Administer backup and restore procedures (Commvault or similar), and participate in disaster recovery planning.
Application Administration (Tableau Server or other platform)
- Install, patch, upgrade, and maintain Tableau Server (or similar BI platforms), including configuration and capacity planning.
- Perform routine log reviews and troubleshoot application-level errors in coordination with relevant teams.
- Assist with account reviews, performance monitoring, and general application health checks.
Process Improvement & Documentation
- Maintain accurate documentation of the IT infrastructure (network diagrams, server configurations, cabling layouts) and SOPs.
- Continuously refine Standard Operating Procedures for server and application maintenance, proposing improvements to enhance efficiency and security.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies, industry standards, and best practices.
Data Center & On-Call Support
- Occasionally work on-site at the Yio Chu Kang data center
- Be available for 1–2 weekend shifts per month for production patching or system upgrades (off-in-lieu provided).
- Provide on-call support for critical issues to minimize downtime and ensure swift incident resolution.
Skills Required:
A successful system administrator will develop a multitude of skill sets including but not limiting to technical, problem-solving and stakeholder management skills. A background in Information Communications and Technology, Business Information Systems or equivalent can serve as a solid foundation to build your career as a server administrator.
- Proven experience as a System Engineer, Network Engineer, or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of hypervisors (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and virtualization technologies.
- Solid understanding of networking protocols, equipment, and security practices.
- Hands-on experience with server hardware setup, including mounting, cabling, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with vulnerability assessment and remediation, antivirus solutions , and Active Directory/Group Policy administration.
- Proficiency in PowerShell, batch scripting, or related scripting languages for automated maintenance tasks.
- Strong ability to create and maintain technical documents (network diagrams, SOPs, and configuration guides).
- Hands-on experience with SCOM (System Center Operations Manager) and backup/restore solutions (Commvault or similar) is a plus
- Experience with Cloud Platform (Azure or AWS) is a plus
- Experience with (or willingness to learn) Tableau Server or similar BI/reporting platforms (e.g., Power BI) is a plus
