Position Description
The Deputy Executive Director (Deputy ED) plays a pivotal role in supporting the Executive Director in overseeing the organization’s operation and implementing its mission. The Deputy ED provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for Day Services, Residential Services, Children’s Services, and Outreach Programs. This position ensures the effective execution of policies, budgets, and programs designed to improve the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and associated conditions.
As a senior advisor and trusted partner to the Executive Director, the Deputy ED assumes responsibility for select projects, strategic priorities, and organizational initiatives, often representing the Executive Director in high-level meetings and discussions. The role requires a collaborative, cross-functional approach to organizational management and a commitment to fostering a strong, effective leadership team. Additionally, this role requires a highly organized, strategic individual who can balance operational responsibilities with leadership duties and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
Position Requirements
Education & Experience:
- Possess a master’s degree in human services, education, business administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive administrative experience with documented increasing levels of responsibility.
- Strong knowledge of developmental disabilities, including applicable state and federal regulations.
Knowledge & Reasoning Ability:
- Comprehensive understanding of developmental disabilities services, funding sources, and regulatory requirements (e.g., DDA, FLSA, FMLA, DOL, EEO).
- Ability to analyze problems, collect and interpret data, establish facts, and draw sound conclusions.
- Familiarity with workflow processes, change management, and solution development.
- Thorough understanding of the agency’s Strategic Plan, policies, and procedures, as well as departmental goals.
Technical Proficiency:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, and data management systems.
- Experience with budget preparation, financial analysis, and resource allocation.
- Understanding of automated business applications and basic graphic and database management tools.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams, foster collaboration, and develop action plans.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to effectively convey ideas and instructions in both individual and group settings.
- Demonstrated ability to summarize conclusions, make informed recommendations, and develop strategic implementation plans.
- High attention to detail and proficiency in managing multiple priorities effectively.
- Ability to maintain sensitivity to cultural and community differences in carrying out responsibilities.
- Ability to compute and interpret rates, ratios, percentages, and other quantitative measures relevant to the organization’s operations.
