Overview
Our client is seeking a Senior Building Services/Mechanical (HVAC) Design Engineer to join their on-site team in Leixlip, Co. Kildare. This role provides the opportunity to support and lead projects for a semiconductor client, ensuring high-quality engineering solutions across HVAC, Specialty Exhaust Systems, Specialty Wet Utility Systems, Plumbing, and Fire Protection systems.
The successful candidate will be accountable for project schedules and technical quality, working closely with clients, trade contractors, vendors, and design professionals. This position involves leading functional teams, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and client expectations.
Primary Duties
- Lead and support engineering design projects within mission-critical and industrial environments.
- Develop, evaluate, and specify engineered systems and products for mechanical building services.
- Manage schedules, budgets, and technical aspects of projects, ensuring client requirements are met.
- Provide on-site assistance during project commissioning, including client and contractor coordination.
- Conduct and lead client & design site walks (2 days per week in Leixlip).
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the Mechanical discipline, solving complex problems and implementing innovative solutions.
- Mentor and train junior engineers, providing guidance and leadership within project teams.
- Ensure compliance with International Building Codes, Irish regulations, and client policies.
- Work within a BIM environment, ensuring accurate and coordinated project models.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Building Services or Mechanical (HVAC) Engineering.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering and design.
- At least 5 years of mission-critical facility design experience, preferably in semiconductor or advanced technology sectors.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage projects independently.
- Experience in leading functional teams, assigning and delegating tasks, and providing mentoring/training.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined team environment with multiple deadlines.
- Proficient in English (CEFR Level B2 or higher) for effective communication.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a passion for buildings and construction.
- Understanding and implementation of client policies and standards.
Software and Skills
- Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- AutoCAD
- Navisworks (required) and Revit (preferred)
- Building Energy Modelling Software (preferred)
- Fluid Modelling and Simulation Software (preferred)
Preferred Experience
- Experience with large, complex industrial HVAC systems and process exhaust systems.
- Prior design leadership experience in wet and dry system design for industrial utility buildings.
- Forward-thinking mindset with a desire to implement best practices and contribute innovative ideas.
