Role & Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the Geoprofessional Division while also being accountable to BSK’s Marketing Director, the Business Development Manager for the Geoprofessional Division will be a primary participant and contributor to the company’s business development organization including monitoring and guidance of business development activities and goals, strategic plan execution, and development of new business and clients. Success in this position requires, when necessary, preparation and timely delivery of BD/CRM Reports, keeping the manager apprised of time demands, deadlines, and obstacles to productivity, and being pleasantly aggressive in pursuit of information. For the operations being supported, timely, accurate, creative and thoughtful production of proposals and SOQs, maintaining updated project descriptions, resumes and BD deliverables and minimizing the time requirements for operations personnel on preparation of proposals and SOQs. Work should only proceed on proposals for which a “Go” determination has been made by the authorized approver. The position may include supervision of business development associates and/or proposal coordinators.
Collaborating with Division COO and supported by the operational and business development support team they will:
- Spearhead business development initiatives that are consistent with the company’s overall strategy.
- Serve as the business leader in developing new business and strategic partnerships in the mid-market.
- Foster, promote and facilitate cross-selling of company-wide products, services and capabilities.
- Collaborate with colleagues (executive, leadership and peers) to develop and promote new services in line with BSK’s strategic goals.
- Contribute to the strategic planning and execution of all sales, marketing and public relations activities.
- Participate with the division COO to manage daily execution of the business development strategy, plans, and process to drive sales, increase revenue, expand markets, and accomplish financial objectives.
- Coach teams in best practices and effective tactics for prospecting new markets, partners, channels, and customers.
- Assist in establishing team targets and metrics to measure the achievement of objectives.
- Manage and mentor subordinate staff (including Proposal Coordinator(s), Business Development Associate(s), or others as assigned), when appropriate, in the day-to-day performance of their jobs.
- Be the driving force in the development of the work ethic, culture and values of the sales and business development group.
- Assist in identifying, designing, developing and implementing market-driven strategies to achieve revenue goals and the company’s mission.
- Assist in identifying potential strategic partners, alliances and relationships to expand core product lines or bring new product lines to the organization.
- Promote a customer-oriented focus and advocate consultative customer relationships.
- Participate in organizational learning opportunities and leading education of sales and marketing skills to non-business development staff.
- Work with technical and BD staff to coordinate and prepare proposals and statements of qualifications as requested by Senior/Executive Management including:
- Customized, non-technical aspects of proposals and SOQs.
- Customizing existing or creating new project descriptions and resumes as identified by the technical leads.
- Completing/facilitating review edits by technical and BD leads
- Organizing, collating, producing, and assuring completeness of documents prior to submission to the prospective client.
- Write and maintain resumes, boilerplate information, project descriptions, photographs etc. for inclusion in the BD Library (Quire).
- Track BD opportunities via CRM.
- Compile pipeline statistics, monitor and prepare periodic reports on CRM use.
- Responsible for proactively communicating the progress of proposals to management.
- Develop and update company collateral materials and maintain on intranet.
- Review lead sources, vet and distribute opportunities to the appropriate BM, GM or BD personnel as assigned.
- Organize, plan, schedule and manage assigned sales efforts.
- Seek business opportunities for the firm.
- Produce active leads, opportunities and/or requests for proposals and requests for qualifications. Record and track all opportunities involved in the CRM.
- Serve as sales lead and ambassador with new and existing clients, spending approximately 20% of time outside the firm making and mining contacts.
- Schedule meetings with new and existing clients and support introductions and sales efforts using Senior and Project Professional support. Transition opportunities and client management at the appropriate time.
- Identify and support additional projects (cross/up selling BSK services) to enhance revenue, recognition of the firm, and loyalty of clients.
- Develop and maintain a strong, relevant network and actively participate in client industry organizations. As required coordinate appropriate trade shows and conferences with technical staff and Corporate Marketing.
- Work with PMs to enhance and build their business development skills and confidence.
Qualifications & Education Requirements
This position requires a business development manager who can identify potential deals, help develop and promote the tactics and teams needed to bring them to fruition. This candidate will need to execute the business development function in an effective, aggressive manner. At the same time, this candidate is also expected to be a contributor to the BSK team, the management of the Geoprofessional division as a member of the senior management team and engage in all levels of management as required. These needs establish the necessary professional background and experience parameters for the successful candidate.
- 5 years plus of business development, marketing, and/or sales experience.
- Experience marketing or selling Geoprofessional business products or services preferred.
- A solid understanding of the Company’s market: services, players, and a database of contacts in related markets.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Productivity Suite.
- A bachelor’s degree in business, Marketing, or Communications or equivalent experience.
