Job Summary
Cascade Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Center is currently looking to add an Orthopedic Medical Scribe to our busy practice. We have clinics in both The Dalles and Hood River.
Responsibilities and Duties
Medical Scribe:
Medical Scribes at the direction of a Physician or other licensed Practitioner will document the physician dictated patient history, review of systems, medications, allergies, physical examination, family, social, past medical history, as well as document procedures, lab results, radiographic impressions made by the Provider, and other information pertinent to the patient’s encounter.
The encounters are documented in real-time ensuring documentation is accurate. The Scribe provides assistance with all clerical activities to the Provider’s practice. This assistance is under the direct supervision of the Provider who will review and approve actions to be taken at key junctures of the patient’s care. The goal is to minimize the Provider’s clerical functions while maximizing his/her clinical role, thus improving patient flow and satisfaction. Scribes can assist the Provider in navigating the EMR and locating information such as test and lab results. They can support workflow and documentation for medical record coding.
Medical Scribe may be responsible for performing a variety of clerical and clinical tasks, depending on the size and needs of their workplace.
Clerical Tasks:
- Documenting patients' medical information, including medical history and health insurance information
- Performing data entry tasks to document patient records within facility databases and maintaining patient files
- Coordinating daily office activities, greeting patients and checking patients in and out for their appointments
Clinical Tasks
- Recording patients' vital signs, documenting physicians' notes and changes in medical conditions
- Taking tissue and fluid samples and sending them in for laboratory analysis
- Prepping exam rooms for clinical procedures and assisting practitioners with patient care
- Assisting physicians during routine checkups, outpatient procedures and other physical exams
- Monitoring and documenting patient symptoms for physicians' review during clinical exams
- Providing compassionate patient support and care, attention and assistance during office visits
- Preparing and administering medications under the direction of supervising physicians
Qualifications and Skills
Working knowledge of medical terminology.
Proficient use of computers, software and experience using an EMR.
Excellent communication skills and an ability to work with different members of the healthcare team.
Knowledge of physical exam process in order to transcribe any medication, lab tests, radiology tests and follow up instructions as dictated by the Provider.
Complete understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations.
Professional and discrete manner.
Preferred Background:
2-5 years in a medical setting
Background as a Medical Assistant, Nurse or other medical position requiring thorough knowledge of medical terminology.
Student in a medical field of study or student in process of applying for medical school.
