Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve is hiring for a front desk, cashier/receptionist focused on exceptional customer service. The cashier/receptionist is an important part of the operation of the Jackson Bottom Wetlands Nature Center. This person helps create a positive first impression to visitors and ensures that patrons and program attendees are off to a good start as they begin their experience. This role also assists other staff onsite by handling routine inquiries and referring callers and visitors to other staff when needed.
Current/Upcoming Projects:
- Assisting with the creation and implementation of seasonal and interactive displays in the exhibit hall and front lobby area of the Nature Center.
- Supporting staff with the preparation for community events such as Earth Day and Pollinator Week.

Designing the Nature Store displays to encourage sales.
Has professional phone and office etiquette, strong customer service skills, and welcomes out patrons into our diverse environments.
Performs various customer service functions for an assigned City department; performs directly related work as required.
The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform various customer service functions for an assigned City department. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgement and initiative. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, City personnel, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office environment.
The Nature Center Cashier/Receptionist position falls under the general Cashier job classification.
Examples of Essential Work
- Greets visitors, providing trail maps and brochures, as well as information about the seasonal activities, attractions, and events.
- Answers department telephone calls, provides information to callers and visitors or refers callers and visitors to other appropriate departments or City personnel.
- Helps register patrons for programs using the online registration software.
- Completes nature store sales and assists with a variety of other day-to-day nature store duties, including ordering merchandise, receiving deliveries, recording incoming merchandise, pricing, and stocking.
- Addresses concerns or inquiries from patrons and the general public, and takes the appropriate measures to ensure customer satisfaction, or refers individuals to appropriate City personnel.
- Assists with set-up, operation, and clean-up for activities which occur on weekdays, and generally help other staff members with their duties when possible.
Acceptable Experience and Training
- High School Diploma or GED;
- Some customer service or general office experience; or
- Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
