What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pullen Arts Center Front Desk (Recreation Leader) position at City of Raleigh North Carolina?
Pullen Arts Center is a community visual arts studio offering skill-building classes led by professional teaching artists, well-equipped studios, and gallery exhibitions. We are looking for Recreation Leaders to provide customer service to visitors, oversee safety in the facility, and support the smooth operation of our studios.Often the first point of contact for a visitor to the Center, Pullen Arts Center’s Recreation Leaders answer questions about programs and studios, register visitors for classes, sell art supplies and studio memberships, prepare and provide Teaching Artists with attendance sheets and class materials, assign parking permits, and generally help to ensure that visitors in-person and on the phone get the information and support they need. Pullen Arts Center’s Recreation Leaders are helpful, welcoming, organized, and take pride in good customer service. They also are responsible for many tasks that are key to safe operations of the center, including conducting periodic walkthroughs in the building, securing equipment and spaces, performing checks on studio equipment, preparing specialized equipment for participant use, and rendering First Aid/CPR if needed. Pullen Arts Center’s Recreation Leaders are responsible for supervising the facility in the absence of a full-time staff person, including opening and closing the facility.
Pullen Arts Center’s Recreation Leaders also play an important role in supporting our studios (training provided upon hire), frequently assigned tasks including assembling kits for classes, organizing supply closets, performing routine checks/maintenance on hand tools, cleaning out lockers, organizing pottery wares, and general studio set up and clean up.The ideal candidate for this position will be upbeat, energetic, self-motivated, very organized, customer service-oriented and will have a love of the arts that they want to share with others. Candidate must have basic understanding/experience with word processing programs and should expect to carry out a portion of the position utilizing Microsoft products and RecTrac (training provided upon hire). Candidate must be capable of acquiring basic understanding of materials, skills and techniques involved in multiple visual arts mediums; candidate does not need to be an artist, but must be able to learn to communicate about artistic skills and studio equipment.
Some night and weekend work is required with this position. Within 2 months of starting, candidate must successfully complete First Aid/CPR training.
A pleasant attitude, good customer service skills, independence, flexibility, organization, reliability, punctuality, self-motivation, effective communication skills are essential. Prior customer service experience preferred. An awareness of safety issues common in art making environments is preferred, but not required.
