INTRODUCTION:
The Accounting Department’s function is to pay, post, receive, balance and reconcile the Tribal financial records. Occasionally an employee may be required to perform other duties that are not in their current job description. The Accounting Department operates as a team in accomplishing all activities.
DUTIES:
- Occasionally act as departmental supervisor in Accounting Operations Supervisor or Controller’s absence.
- Plans, organizes, and coordinates the centralized accounting and financial reporting for assigned grants.
- Researches issues to support expenditures.
- Draws funds and prepares invoices, as needed, to support expenditures.
- Prepares or assists in the preparation of all applicable fiscal reports for programs and ensures the timely submission thereof.
- Coordinates with key personnel to support proper and timely expenditure of grant funds in compliance with applicable guidelines and budget deadlines.
- Compiles year-end reports, work papers, and analysis necessary for annual single audit.
- Maintains grant fiscal records and database.
- Reviews journal entries, assigns account codes, and monitors charges for reasonableness and compliance with Federal, State, Local and Tribal regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business and three (3) years of experience in the general bookkeeping/accounting field or grant fiscal management-OR- equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Experience in:
- Principles and practices of governmental accounting.
- Federal and state regulations related to area of responsibility.
- Computer applications including comprehensive databases, spreadsheets and word processing software.
- Researching, analyzing and evaluating complex financial data.
- Establish and maintain effective interdepartmental communications and relationships.
Ability to:
- Communicate complex information clearly and concisely.
- Analyze and interpret financial data for accuracy.
Other:
- Detail oriented.
- Possess solid interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to occasionally work weekends and evenings.
