What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Controller position at Crest Marine?
Duties:
- Collaborate with the Materials team to ensure the accuracy of physical inventory and reported results, investigating, and explaining book-to-physical adjustments.
- Review and analyze labor reporting and costs, material costs, manufacturing overhead, distribution costs, returns, and inventory levels.
- Support the month-end close process, including preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and completing assigned tasks.
- Perform monthly analysis of potential excess and obsolete inventory items.
- Analyze internal controls to ensure adequate safeguarding of assets and accurate reporting of results.
- Ensure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Prepare and manage daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
- Lead and assist in the completion of special projects as needed.
- Prepare and disseminate monthly and quarterly internal financial reports for senior management, periodically updating reporting formats for relevance and efficiency.
- Develop forecasts and budgets, including full balance sheet forecasts and roll-forwards of PP&E spending and depreciation.

- · Analyze and interpret accounting information to evaluate operating results against prior periods, forecasts, and budgets, ensuring proper recording of adjustments.
- Assess operational efficiencies and recommend procedural improvements to enhance operations.
- Perform data input, tracking, and reporting through weekly dashboards, cost trackers, and working capital reduction initiatives.
- Support the development of consistent, fact-based decision-making across the business.
- Coordinate with and provide information for external and internal auditors as required.
Education & Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required: MBA, CPA, and/or CMA is preferred.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in accounting and finance.
- Experience working in a manufacturing operation is preferred.
- Public accounting experience preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP and other accounting standard requirements.
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
- Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Team oriented, ability to handle multiple tasks and work independently.
- Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
- Microsoft Office with a heavy emphasis on advanced Excel knowledge.
- Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.
- Working knowledge of internal control processes/SOX compliance.
Environmental Conditions:
Works in office environment. Office environment has controlled temperature, humidity and noise level. Minimal bending, stooping, walking, and stair climbing are required as is lifting items of moderate weight. Quality standards and safety rules and regulations are mandatory.
