DESCRIPTION
The Grants Specialist identifies and evaluates new funding opportunities, develops written proposals, and coordinates the application submission process for various funding sources (foundations and other businesses). Additionally, it serves as a forward-facing representative of Dogs Inc, fostering relationships with foundations through events, tours, and personal engagement to advance the organization’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
1. Craft and Submit Winning Proposals
- Write, edit, and submit high-quality grant and business proposals that align with funder requirements and organizational goals.
- This includes developing compelling project narratives, drafting letters of commitment, completing all required forms and attachments, and ensuring the project narrative aligns seamlessly with the budget.
2. Engage and Cultivate Relationships
- Act as a forward-facing representative of Dogs Inc by attending events, hosting impactful tours of our facilities, and engaging with foundations, to build and maintain meaningful partnerships.
- Foster long-term relationships that enhance our mission and create opportunities for collaboration and support.
3. Be a Program Expert
- Develop a deep understanding of Dogs Inc’s history, mission, and transformative programs to effectively represent the organization in proposals.
4. Discover Fundraising Opportunities
- Research and identify new funding opportunities that align with the organization’s mission, strategic goals, and programmatic needs, ensuring a robust pipeline of prospects.
5. Manage Grant Records
- Accurately maintain proposal records and communications using Raiser’s Edge, ensuring seamless tracking and reporting.
6. Track and Report Results
- Monitor and evaluate proposal outcomes, providing detailed feedback and insights to your supervisor.
7. Support Grant Administration
- Provide administrative support for all grant-related activities, ensuring a smooth and efficient process from start to finish.
8. Maintain Professional Standards
- Uphold quality by utilizing proven templates and adhering to proposal writing best practices, including clarity, consistency, and an engaging tone.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Fundraising, Marketing, Communications, Sales, Public Relations or English, or other closely related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in grant/proposal writing to include identifying and evaluating funding opportunities, preparing required forms, writing the project narrative, and preparing the final application packet for submission according to funder requirements.
- Previous experience will demonstrate a proven record of accomplishment in securing new funding opportunities; comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to distinguish and identify funding opportunities for special programs.
