EthosEnergy O&M is recruiting for an Operations & Maintenance Technician (Electrical and Instrumentation) to be based with our O&M business in Gaffney, SC. This position will be responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and repairing instrumentation, controls, computers, and electrical systems at the facility while also qualifying as and performing duties as an auxiliary operator. This equipment includes but is not limited to the GE 6FA Combustion Turbine Generator, GE Fitchburg Steam Turbine Generator, HRSG Boiler, and auxiliary equipment. Must be willing to work rotating 12-hour shifts, nights and weekends. Strictly adheres to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees and public safety.
Job Responsibilities
- Essential Duties & Responsibilities Includes, but not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned by Facility Management as needed:
- Competently operates and maintains the combined cycle power generating facility equipment with minimal guidance or assistance.
- Reads meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record equipment operating data.
- Performs water chemistry analysis to verify operating conditions ensuring water chemistry is within proper control ranges. Makes adjustments to water chemistry as needed by controlling chemical feed and/or blow down rates.
- Keeps Lead OMT (Control Room Operator) on shift fully informed of unusual conditions and current job progress as the job relates to facility operations.
- Uses facility operating procedures and equipment technical manuals to maintain and repair facility equipment and ensure equipment is operated within designed parameters.
- Fully supports the use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System by displaying a proficiency in using the system and dedication to the facility maintenance philosophy. Performs CMMS data entry and work order close-out in a thorough and timely fashion.
- Start and stop equipment, open and close valves in the facility as directed by and in coordination with the LOMT on shift.
- Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, valves, and gauges while cleaning, replacing, oiling and lubricating other component parts and equipment as required.
- Opens and closes circuit breakers as required for proper system operation and electrical isolation.
- Performs capital project and/or major repair responsibilities as assigned by the Facility Management.
- Repairs and or replaces defective parts along with the diagnostic examination of mechanical, electrical and operational malfunctions/failures of equipment and components.
- Reads, understands and complies with all regulatory and facility safety procedures.
- Work overtime, or irregular hours as needed to support reliable operation of the facility.
- Maintains the cleanliness of all areas of the plant.
- May be required to operate a forklift and similar heavy equipment.
- Actively participates as a highly valued member of the organization in a team environment.
Required Skills / Knowledge
- Electrician and or Instrument and Controls Technician Under the general direction and supervision of the O&M Manager or designee, this OMT job functions includes, but not limited to: Installation, repairs, calibration and troubleshooting power plant instrumentation, electrical devices, and process controls. In addition to plant operations, candidate should expect to perform the following functions as part of the Electrical and or I/C skill set:
- Diagnoses and repairs instrument and control system malfunctions including programmable logic controllers (PLC’s), distributive control systems (DCS), instrument loops, flow meters, transmitters, pressure transducers, temperature probes, and level probes.
- Diagnoses and repairs electric and electric system control malfunctions of equipment such as transformers, relays, switches, transmitters, generator monitoring and controls systems, low, medium, and high voltage distribution systems and monitoring devices.
- Installs new electrical circuitry and equipment as required.
- Properly uses electrical test equipment and other similar hand tools.
- Performs, with direction or supervision as required, the maintenance of equipment including predictive maintenance, preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance. Such maintenance activities will also include the procurement of parts, materials, and services from an approved vendor base. Writes, submits and completes corrective work orders for approval.
- Initiates purchase requests coordinates with and directs outside contractors as required to ensure completion of maintenance activities.
- Ability to perform 480V and medium voltage switchgear basic electrical system maintenance (consistent with EthosEnergy electrical safety practices) and or supervise outside contractors in the performance of such work, including the development of work scope and bid analysis.
- Ability to perform routine generator electrical system tests and inspections to the extent qualified and or supervise an outside contractor as required.

Experience
- Experience
- Five (5) years electrical and or instrumentation experience in an industrial environment with the ability to demonstrate journeyman level knowledge.
- Basic computer skills.
- Two (2) years of maintenance experience in an industrial environment and the ability to demonstrate a journeyman level knowledge in the Electrical and/or Instrumentation craft.
- Ability to function in a team environment.
- A bonus if candidate possess experience with ABB (Bailey) DCS, GE Mark V (MKV) turbine controls, GE Mark VI (MKVI) turbine controls, or Allen Bradley PLCs.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management system. Applicants must have the right to work in the United States in order to be considered for this position.
Education Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in industrial Electronics, Electronic Instrumentation, or equivalent engineering studies and at least two (2) years’ experience in and industrial environment.
